How elegant.

This seems to be a habit with Westbank, showy but not thinking through the little details, like the cracking glass panels at Telus.

They should stick some spinning warning signs on the corner. Call it public art.

Wait, do I see we concrete though? Looks like they ground the step and formed a ramp.

Still wouldn't stop a woman in stilletos from going 🞵🞵🞵 over teakettle if her shoe got caught in it. Can't believe that is code for a walking surface.

Okay, maybe this will work. Not ideal but...

I think they should paint the little sloped part in bold yellow and black blocks or stripes to draw peoples' eyes down. And maybe a sign on both sides of the little concrete wall saying WATCH YOUR STEP.

Agreed.

I don't want to nit pick, but this is a pretty class development. This is poorly designed and poorly fixed.

I find it worse the city approved this entrance design in the first place. Are they so mesmerized by Gillespie?

Alot of this stuff is designed on site between CP and the variety of site people. Big jobs are filled with scope gaps and missing design

With the narrower gap and the reduced height of the step, they probably could have
gotten away with leaving the slight step and painting it white or yellow.
That may have looked better than the oddly angled ramp.

I now expect to see repeating clusters of planters on the grates stepping down the hillside -
akin to the planters at Telus Garden on Richards St.

Tsk, tsk. Gillespie seems a little delusional, or disingenuous at best:

....An analysis of Vancouver House presales we conducted previously showed that at least 100 out of the 118 presale flips were carried out by offshore buyers1.

These findings fly in the face of Westbank owner Ian Gillespie’s assertion that offshore buyers are not buying his condos for flipping.

“They never, ever buy just on speculation,” Gillespie told The Globe and Mail in 2014. “They don’t buy to flip it.”

“They buy because they think it’s going to be a second home or because they have a child who will go to UBC, or because they are thinking of leaving Hong Kong because they are worried about air pollution,” Gillespie added. “And the ones who don’t end up coming, it’s because their kid who they thought was going to UBC decides to be a rock star. Instead, they end up renting the unit out.”

Westbank’s marketing director Michael Braun is listed as the realtor in a number of flips....

That tower would never have been built if it had to rely on local buyers.

Well said there! It will still be a pile of shanty huts for auto-repairs and scrapyard over at that corner.
