Big time, no better time then over the next 1-3 months to close the entire stretch. If businesses are opening up with the construction still ongoing, I can't even imagine how hard it would be for them to recover.

For that stretch there are not many businesses open right now. Leave one lane open makes sense. There is a lot of emergency equipment that use the stretch

if it could be done in 90 days it might be less painful than a more protracted outcome but i'm not even positive about that. don't forget that even during that 90 days, without jasper avenue there is no other east-west connection for emergency vehicles and transit, not just private vehicles, between grierson hill road and 103a/104 avenue and losing one of those to an accident or anything else could be catastrophic.

additional concerns would be opting for a full shut-down and then, in 45 days (once it's impassable until completed) finding out that the supply chain for needed materials has been closed and it might be months on top of the original schedule until that changes or that construction becomes "non-essential" and needs to shut down or that labour and consultants simply refuse to visit job sites or that project scope (and duration with it) expands because of "unforeseen circumstances" or simple underestimation or excessive optimism. not that we ever see any of those things happen in edmonton.

They definitely won't shut down 99 st and Jasper portion completely. That intersection is the only point of entry and exit for MacDonald Estates, Courtyard, and what's going on north of 99st into the central library cargo bay, LRT construction, etc

Obviously a bunch of logistics and other discussions needed, but the last thing we need is another year of disruption during a recovery period.

Looking at it right now. the full south lanes are closed. even the entrance to the Convention centre. They can easily work on one side then switch over. Looks like the south side has more work involved.

They have started taking out the light poles.

Also did not know PCL has the contract.

Their job trailers are just starting to show up on site. In front of MacDonald Place

Scaffolding collapses in southwest Edmonton, OHS investigating.

Alberta’s Occupational Health and Safety officials are investigating a scaffolding collapse in southwest Edmonton on Thursday evening.

Wooden planks and metal bars came crashing down onto a line of vehicles in the parking lot beside a multi-storey condominium building under construction at 1238 Windermere Way.

Whoops! Someone's in trouble. Thankfully no one was injured or killed as this could have been much, much worse.

Another luffing jib style too. Interesting that this has become more common around here.

Great to see construction FINALLY started!

Given that it is just the podium section, any ideas on how long until it opens to the public? One year? A year and a half?
