Thanks Doug....yeah, that is what the Ontario public have been demanding during this crisis..a beer with their pizza to go. Despite the fact that the beer store, LCBO and supermarkets with beer/wine have all been open.

I have a feeling this will be as crucial as allowing bars to open at 9 am or whatever he extended it to that didn't seem to get much takeup.

Honestly its a smart move as alcoholic drinks are big money earners for both the restaurants and the government. Many restaurants don't make money on the food, they make it off the drinks.

There was large lines outside gun stores prior to this, partially due to anticipated increases in crime.

With illegal drug supplies running out and I'm assuming/hoping prostitution is also dying, likely criminals will be turning to petty crime.

I would imagine a good amount of the guns and ammo is being sold to guys who now have the time to go hunting and an added incentive to hunt for food.

I was driving on the 417 yesterday afternoon and some people were driving 140, including on the Nicholas/Metcalfe stretch adjacent to downtown. I don’t think I’ve seen people drive that fast on the urban portion of the 417 before.

One only occasionally reads about a stunt driving charge. I believe that this is quite unusual, but don't really know. Over in WRC, forummers have been commenting about the uptick in speeding/stunt driving that they've been seeing down there.

I hit a speed trap on the ETR while going at 136 km/h Monday night, but the cop didn’t come after me. I think they really are after the big fish, i.e. stunt drivers.

On the other hand, York Region might be seeing a similar uptick too.

Cops on a normal day won’t pull you over for doing anything less than 140 on the 407 anyway. Enough people do 150+ on that highway that they generally wait for stunt driving convictions. I know someone who has been commuting a good distance on the highway from the day it opened doing 135-140 every day and has never been pulled over.

I drove into Toronto last weekend and was doing about 135 all the way down the QEW. Normally you are lucky to get over 110 in free flow conditions. And I was getting passed. Regularly. Saw a few stunt drivers doing probably 170-180 on the 401.

I'm definitely hearing reports of types of criminal activity that were seemingly a lot less common not that long ago. For example, break-ins in retail businesses. An SAQ liquor store was broken into this week on a normally busy stretch of St-Joseph in Hull. Never heard of that before. There have been a few cases of arson hitting retail businesses as well in the past week or so. Normally in this city you'd only get a handful of those in an entire year.
