Yes we will need all the employment opportunities we can get.

once this whole thing is over, we will be in or heading to a recession. so just like in 2008/2009 many billions will be available for projects. i bet taking the Broadway Subway all the way to UBC will be more likely to happen because of it. hopefully a fully free-flowing SFPR is on the list to. as well as improvements to the Upper Levels Highway.

they key is to have these projects ready to go for that time, so we can start ASAP and get the funds ASAP.

Instead of making highway 17 fully free flow (which is impossible, getting rid of every intersection with a traffic light is way too hard) I suggest we ramp up Highway 1 expansion to Abbotsford and start preparing for the GEorge Massey tunnel expansion

How? Old Yale Road is going to be removed. The only real difficult one is probably the Golden Ears Connector intersection.

BC Ferries temporarily suspends Nanaimo-Horseshoe Bay

regular sailings on the Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen-Duke Point routes are reduced to four round-trips a day from the present eight on both;
four additional cargo-only round-trips will be provided on the Tsawwassen-Duke Point route, to ensure essential goods are transported to and from Vancouver Island;
service on the Langdale-Horseshoe Bay route is reduced to six round trips a day from the present eight;
all service on the Horseshoe Bay-Nanaimo route is suspended;
all service on the Mill Bay-Brentwood Bay route is suspended;
for northern and mid-coast communities, service will continue to operate at the current off-peak (winter) service levels;
the summer direct service from Bella Coola to Port Hardy will not be introduced at this time.

You know, I've been seeing all these "ghost town" pictures on the Internet, but when I'm driving in Vancouver it doesn't look like that. Sure, the traffic is way, way down, but it definitely doesn't look like a deserted city. I'm guessing that other cities are similar and that the folks taking these "ghost town" images have to wait and catch a moment in time that isn't entirely representative.

There's definitely a lot less traffic on the major arterials and fewer pedestrians too.

Agreed. Anecdotally it's taking me 5-10 minutes less each way to get to work right now.

Ugh the war on cars continues. Nothing like driving along a major minding your own business only to have to stop for cross traffic when a, no one activated the light or b, only 1 car or 1 ped wants to cross/turn. Most of the intersections in Surrey now are fully automatic. Take a drive along 88th or King George or 104th or 150th in Guildford to see how head-scratching stupid that decision is.

Nothing like having 30 to 40 cars have to stop just because no one is turning or 1 to cars are turning but they get a full light and the 40 cars now have to wait 20 to 30 seconds. Way to make traffic flow even worse.

realistically they should be synchronized, with no buttons or actuation during the busy times. such as rush hours and midday if traffic warrants. then afterwards, at night/evening/etc. they go to actuated/button.

Yeah, totally a 'war on cars' when there are hardly any on the road right now. Inconvenienced for a few seconds while sitting comfortably in an air conditioned vehicle, my heart absolutely breaks for you.

If they're on sometimes and off sometimes then how the heck are pedestrians supposed to know whether or not they're supposed to push the button?

Exactly. These are extraordinary times, measures like this are not at all unreasonable IMHO.
