Good. Hopefully that doesn't implode now.

The unfortunate reality of this is going to be the closing of many locally owned places while the chains survive.

The government has opened up $10 billion in business credit for businesses affected, so hopefully some places are able to take advantage. The big financial relief announcement is coming tomorrow, though I think it's going to be focused more on individuals.

There was a post on Twitter suggesting 3 restaurants are closing, but he didn't want to name them. Anyone have a guess who the other two are besides The Capitol?

Famoso is usually pretty busy downtown at least for lunch. If you don't go by 12, you'll probably have to find another restaurant to eat at.

Off the top of my head, I can't really think of another place that's struggling too bad. Could be one of the now dozen or so salad/sandwich shops? The cakes place in the tiny storefront on the Vic side of the Avord tower?

Did it say permanently? Vic's and Avenue are temporarily closing.

That how it sounded to me. Struggling ones that were going to close permanently bc COVID was going to be too much to absorb. I guess that's the tough part of social media. Sometimes the message isn't clear.

I posted that on Social Media. Businesses will announce it when they are ready to. Some of them see the writing on the wall, while reality hasn't sunk in for many others.

I talked to lots of other biz owners that really have no plan and are hoping for the best. Many have said they can survive 2 weeks being closed, but not more.

This is all anecdotal, and hopefully there will be some govt relief for small business, but I think we all know how many of them have been barely scraping by for the last 3-4 years anyways.

It's always sad to see independents go. Their investment in the community is important. I hope the federal money announced today will help some of those entrepreneurs, even if they do have to close temporarily.

The other one I thought of later in the day yesterday was Fresh and Sweet. They've been hamstrung by the capital point hole and construction for years, and now when things look like there could be some semblance of normalcy, bam!

From CBC news...

It sounds as if the owner(s) of The Capital were already planning to rebrand that business and turn it into a burger bar. Read more in the article attached, written by Kendall Latimer of the CBC.

Probably old news to others that work downtown...

I called the Cornwall Centre this morning and the food court remains open for take out only. No seating is allowed.

I was also informed that there are 30 stores currently closed. They are allowing stores to remain open is they wish. The mall hours have also been reduced to 11 am to 6 pm Monday to Saturday and 12 noon to 5 pm on Sunday.

I have posted this in the Regina Retail thread as well.

Any word on what’s happening at the old Glitters location? Noticed the for sale sign was marked as sold earlier this week and today there’s a dumpster out beside the building. Seems like that building should have been knocked down.

There is a hand-written message taped to the west side of their electric sign saying opening in May. It has been up there for at least six months. I agree that it looks as if something is happening. The place needs a major overhaul. I used to go their once in a while. The place was dumpy but the food was okay.

Beer Bros and Bar Willow's owner thinks it's a 50-50 chance whether his two restaurants will survive the C19 shutdown.

Joeys website says it closed temporarily for COVID.

India House in the old South Keg has closed after a fire.

Their location in the East end on Quance is competely empty and there are big 'for lease' signs in the window.
