Keep in mind that there were bigger fish to fry back then though, namely, twinning of 11 between Gravenhurst and North Bay. That took 9 years. Concurrent was the work on Highway 69 which saw Highway 400 extended all the way to Nobel and Highway 69 realigned as a true freeway around Estaire. 64 km of 11-17 was twinned in Thunder Bay - Nipigon corridor (though Nipigon Bridge failure really left a bad taste in everyone’s mouth). Not to be ignored was the work to bring 4 lanes of 17 from Echo Bay to SSM. On the fly, I’m starting to wonder, were the liberals not planning to touch the 17 in NEO at all unless and until it’s obvious that 400 be near Sudbury?

Don’t get me wrong. I dislike the Liberals for ignoring stretches like Kenora and Renfrew and believe that they could have done more in the 6 years after they finished twinning 11 in 2012.
This is prime time for the NDP to try to win. They win our seats, so maybe they might learn how to treat us northerners.

You think NDP can win 2022?

Not if they don't find a new leader. If she was going to be Premier, it would have happened already. The Liberals are going to be rejuvenated by then under Del Duca and people that turned to the NDP in many city ridings in 2018 will be going back to the Liberals.

Del Cuca has to convince enough of the province his his not like Wynne.

Horwath could pull a win, if she plays it right.

I do agree that Del Duca will have a lot to work to do to distance himself from Wynne. I still don't hold my breath for Horwath though. If anything, from what I see is happening in B.C., NDP will jack up the price of twinning because they sure will mandate unionized wage.

As apposed to non unionized workers where the owner of the company is the only one getting rich off of it?

I see that you ditched Northern Ontario Party. Good question. I actually don’t have an answer.

I just thought you have thrown your support behind NDP (based on our conversation record). I could be wrong though.

Ps: I’m gonna be drawing some interchanges for the next 2 hours so you probably won’t hear back from me until then.

That is a long answer. A PM about it would make sense.

https://www.drydennow.com/local/mto-finalizing-plans-for-twinning (from 3 days ago)

MTO’s finalizing the design right now. Lol, just watch protestors storm the construction site in summer though. I heard a different group of protestors did that back in 2009 as well, stalling the construction.

Edit: Actually, assuming that F.N.’s under Treaty 3 are happy (based on recent events), I don’t think there will be protests.

Speaking of that, it’s interesting that the 3 F.N.’s on Highway 69 didn’t just come out and protest at the construction site. Heh, I don’t even know who stands with the hereditary chiefs in B.C. and who doesn’t.

I would be very surprised to see any protests on a highway in Northern Ontario by anyone. The weather conditions, remoteness and insects would not make it pleasant.

I have yet to hear of anybody here who supports the hereditary chiefs and we have a large Indigenous population in Timmins. If were talking about police-Indigenous relations then that's a completely different story.

The protests in Thunder Bay have been small and ineffective. Judging by the number of trains running today, we're experiencing the opposite of what Southern Ontario is going through. It's been basically non-stop since this morning.

A big part of the reason could be that here in Northern Ontario, the "hereditary" chiefs are very unpopular.

https://kenoraonline.com/local/melillo-wants-answers-on-twinning-project

Malillo wants answer on the twinning project.

“ His question also urges to government to commit to a previously-agreed upon funding formula, which sees the costs split evenly between the feds and the province. The government now has 45 days to respond.”

This is actually not that big of a deal. Question 324 of the current session (they are currently at 393) reads as follows:

Q-324 — February 18, 2020 — Mr. Melillo (Kenora) — With regard to the twinning of the Trans-Canada Highway 17 between Kenora and the Manitoba border: (a) what is the total amount of money the government has allocated to date for the project; (b) when was each amount in (a) allocated, and under what program; (c) if no money has been allocated to date, will the government be allocating funding for the project, and, if so, how much money; and (d) will the government commit to the formula that was used in the past, whereby the federal government provides 50% of the funding, while the provincial government of Ontario provides the other 50%, and, if not, what funding formula will the government commit to in relation to this project?

https://www.ourcommons.ca/DocumentViewer/en/43-1/house/sitting-27/order-notice/page-9

A potential valid answer could simply be 0, 0, TBD, TBD.

With recession around the corner, which projects, if any at all, will proceed?
1. Kenora (6 km)
2. T Bay - Nipigon Corridor (46 km left now?)
3. SSM to Espanola
4. Espanola to Denlou
5. Lively to Markstay-Warren
6. Collander (North Bay) to Mattawa
7. Renfrew to Arnprior

For 2-6, I forgot the specific segments that still only have 2 lanes so I lumped them together.

Well, first, please spell correctly. It is Callander.
Also, the TCH is divided in Callander
The section you mean is still within the city of North Bay.

I would guess it would be the following sections:
Parts of highway 69 that are shovel ready.
Parts of 17 close to Ottawa.
Possibly the bypass in Sudbury.

The rest, unless they are shovel ready, may be too far off as a good project to stimulate the economy.

Man, keep the feud between you and Urban_Sky in the Via thread. Don't bring it to me too.
I mentioned Callander instead of North Bay because that's where the new Highway 17 is supposed to branch off the 11. That part of 11 is not yet TCH, not just yet.
Which part of Highway 69 is shovel ready now? Is it the section through Parry Sound District exclusively? My thinking is that, since Parry Sound voted blue, they would probably get it done. Sudbury? Not so much, unless Ford decided to go, "Screw the colours/stripes, let's just get it going." I find that unlikely given that he won't even spend a dime on Hamilton's LRT.
I definitely agree with 417 extension to Renfrew. Yakabuski will make sure to get it rolling even after the PC's are out.
I also think that 17 west of Kenora may for real be ready this time.

Where abouts in Callander is it going to connect.

I used to live there, and I know of the challenges of spelling it. I was correcting you, not feuding you. All the information I have seen still keeps it close to the existing location.

Remember the picture that I drew where I connected both the turnoff to 17 Ottawa-bound and Marshall Avenue Extension together, and where you were like, "The proposed interchange with Marshall Avenue Extension is 2 km north of the turnoff to Ottawa"? I thought that was Callander.

Anyway now I know. Thanks.

Edit: I found it. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=229872&page=57 #1135

Edit 2: Never mind, that's actually Marshall Park, not Callander.
