The south Asian restaurant is next door to the strip club. That block of Columbus Ave. is historically fascinating. It used to have a combo Filipino restaurant/Punk night club (the Mabuhay) across the street and also on that block is the Hungry I club which was a Mecca in the Folk era. The several strip clubs are also anachronistic, left over from a period in the mid 20th century when topless waitresses were a thing. A block in one direction is Beat poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s City Lights book store—still going strong—and in the other is a pizza place where “Godfather” director Francis Ford Coppola used to be found making pizza in the kitchen sometimes (several of these photos show the Cafe Zoetrope which Coppola owns and which features wines from his vinyard).
