But shouldn't the door (and floor) really be higher to meet the Pacific St sidewalk?

either this was deemed as fine, or someone really messed of the building grades.

the city either changed the grades after the fact, and it was too late to change the building, or the building just didn't care about the end sidewalk grade. either way, that is a terrible entrance.

i am surprised the city would pass this. maybe they haven't and have asked for a redesign? this building technically isn't done yet.

i do wonder what will happen though. i doubt that will end up staying. seems dangerous.

Google Maps Streetview has some good perspectives on the grading as well.

If they can't find a solution, they should just close off that entrance unless it's needed for some fire safety reason. Or even then make it into an emergency exit.

Except there’s a juice or coffee bar there, that would kill their business.

I was down there today, I saw this guy grinding the cement, I don't know if its noticeable but where he has worked is much lighter. No idea why. They had the troubled area behind black guide things.

I went inside Fresh St. Market, they have a really good cookie at the bakery that is served warm, totally worth th $2.99. I thought the prices were quite reasonable overall. The London Drugs was nice as well, a bit everything without being too overwhelming like the regular size stores.

Have they also put a mat over the grate?

Maybe they'll put some metal or plastic markings on the edges.

I think the grate areas should be turned into outdoor sitting patios with raised platforms that allow air intake from the sides. That would be nice, especially in the warmer months. Plants grown at the patios and decorative lighting can animate the areas more.

I walked through the area on Wednesday. More work is being done throughout the common area. The "sunken" stairwells are getting LED light strips installed flush on each of the risers to illuminate the steps. So far they have completed the one between Fresh St, and London Drugs and it looks good, workers were busy on the other two.

I agree that the front entrance is a disaster, and beyond comprehension that it was built that way.

I suspect more landscaping in the form of planters will be placed around to demarc the steps etc. I'm going to reserve judgement (oops, too late ) until all work is done.

I really hope they can elevate the finishes there. Compared to The Amazing Brentwood, the public realm here is so far less than amazing.

I think that it's really the side entrance, even though it's the most prominent entrance.

Looks like that's the "Fork Lift Bar:"

Main entrance appears to be a different one (at the back of the room in this pic):

Fork Lift is in the interior of the store. That's a coffee bar you enter directly from the corner, which is part of the Glory Juice chain. You can access the store from there, or from a side (main?) entrance that goes directly into the store area. (You can see that entrance towards the back of the lower picture, just to the left and below the 'Bakes' sign.).

Yeah, I think this is the main entrance.
But the sign placement doesn't lead people to it.
The sign should be on a frame spanning the recess and they need more active uses at that entrance (like Yaletown Urban Fare).
The window to the left of the entrance should be a garage-style door that opens up - for cafe counter or a flower shop, etc.
