I see it both ways. Some people I know live central and use public transit.
I had done that at times when I lived in Osborne Village but still had a car..
And if that does not work for you, then you rent or buy elsewhere. But...For me and others, a car is required for work and client visits,sometimes in far reaches or out of town..Also..and often to care for elders that rely on your visiting them, buying groceries and driving them to visit others and or to doctor appts etc..
