Yes it is.
This is the north view from the south side of Cordova St.
Both those buildings are being built behind the propped up heritage facades.

The plaza view is as if you were standing behind these building looking the same way (north) towards the plaza and Blood Alley.

The buildings are going ahead but the plaza is separate City development that is being done in tandem. I don't think they've released their final design yet for the plaza but are doing some minor prep work already.

Ohh I see, that view is looking towards those existing buildings south of Water Street. You know what threw me off? Those skyscrapers at the background on the right, but I guess they are just representing the "Flatiron", Chill Winston building cluster.

Futuristic Restaurant and Lounge Coming to Blood Alley in Gastown

A unique restaurant and lounge concept will open within the commercial space of the redevelopment at 33 West Cordova Street, right next to Blood Alley in Gastown.

There are few details at the moment, and no restaurant operator has been associated with the new space for the establishment.

Artistic renderings show a futuristic interior design featuring a series of parallel arches clad in perforated aluminum panels that are patterned to appear like overlapping leaves in a forest. The space appears to be illuminated by light fixtures installed behind the panels, with light streaming through the perforations — just like the rays of the sun through a forest canopy. The interior opens up to Blood Alley Square on the rear side of the redevelopment, which will help activate the public space.

It is if you go to Blood Alley today (or before it was closed off).

my friend lived in blood alley in the 2000s, it was pretty sketchy, he said the building was always being broken into.

Yeah, there are stories of people breaking into buildings and parkades almost daily on Reddit. No matter how cool area Gastown is, I would never move in anywhere nearby it.

Urban Design Panel Support Sends Mixed Messages To West End QMUNITY

One of the things Hannah and I find most fascinating about our city is that many of its existing structures wouldn’t be allowed to be built today. For instance, like most developments, this proposal is setback to allow the required 80 feet of space between residential towers. Yetthis Urban Design Panel review revealed it still can’t achieve that separation, as its neighbour, London Place, has floor plates large enough to host a corporate workforce.

Originally constructed as an office building in 1981, it was converted to strata housing in 1994. Which means if it’s ever demolished, its replacement would be trimmed to create smaller floors. For this reason, city staff were willing to relax that spacing requirement, but remained troubled that, at its worst, one corner of this building breaches a view cone by 6 feet. The panel refused to address this in their recommendations, but noted their consensus was this minor violation wasn’t a concern.

Seriously though major crack-down needs to happen to restore some level of safety and all. I agree with Klazu though and would never live near Gastown.

Its somewhat alarming how prevalent the view is that people want meaningful change in how the DTES is being handled, yet its controversial to say that status quo is a proven maximum damage option for all participants involved.

I think we should crack down hard on all kinds of criminals. No need for biases here. To me drug pushers are no different from manslaughters. They murder for profits. Yet this country is too soft on criminals.
