I get what you are saying and appreciate your perspective. You know I think I will give it time. Honestly the more I looked at it lastnight the more I liked it. I guess being able to see the tower walking into the street from my driveway I just envisioned that it would be easily and clearly visible at night. It's there, I can definitely see it but seems diminished, just a hint of glowing light. There is a stupid billboard that went up a couple of years ago which — because if it wasn't there, we would have a lot more of the Independent showing from here. I think I will eventually get over that. I looks nice overall and I enjoyed taking pictures while walking my dog.

I was in the city tonight, and from Riverside and all points downtown, its very nice and tasteful. As someone stated earlier, the slight fade to the top is nice. However, feel it could overall be slightly brighter, especially when viewed from outside of the city core. From the intersection of SW Pkw/ 71 between the Y & Bee Cave, its not as visible as I thought it would be. Obviously, it doesn't need to be in same company as Frost and the Colorado Tower. But with it's proximity to the Bowie and its bright vertical border and the 360, its a little underwhelming for our current tallest.

Thank you! I felt like I was the only one that felt this way. I can understand both sides of the coin but it really would not hurt or diminish the way it looks up close if it were just a bit brighter.

Agree 100%! Lighting is like a game show. You want to be just under or exact, to go over you lose! Would be easy to over light it--good to avoid.

Man, ALL of our lights are underpowered if you ask me. We’d look so much more impressive if we bumped the levels up a couple of notches.

This was posted in @geeksoftly's instagram stories yesterday. They are worth a follow if you are on instagram and you like interesting photos of Austin.

I agree. Our bigger cousin up north sure does a good job of lighting up at night.

And honestly our skyline is more exciting than theirs, too. We DESERVE better lighting!

I was downtown tonight, and I will say the lighting is very subtle. I don't care for bright and/or flashing lights. But I would like to see it turned up a notch, although I do like it.

Saw it last night, it reminded me of a paper lantern, which was pretty cool. I think that's all it really needs to be most of the time, but if they can do colors/patterns during weekend nights and/or special events that would be cool.

The lighting is just about right imho. It matches the amenities floors well and is not garish in-your-face bright. At least something about this crown is now aesthetically pleasing...

I saw it last night on my way home, and the paper lantern analogy works really well. Strikingly understated for a building that's so funky. But it doesn't look bad at all. Just glad they finally flicked the switch on the whole thing.

A 23-story waterfall earlier today...

A broken water pipe is the source of water pouring from a balcony of The Independent in downtown, according to the Austin Fire Department.

Firefighters arrived at the condo building Sunday afternoon in response to a high rise alarm. At around 2:50 p.m. they discovered that the water flowing from the 23rd floor balcony is due to a broken potable water pipe.

Downtown only makes up a small portion of the overall light the entire city produces. It can stand to be a little bit flashier without bothering the surrounding communities or wildlife.
