Well, it'll be another POS tower in the area, but hopefully the street level is functional and actually conductive to an urban environment...which it seems to be.

There is no Spadina portion. This thing is going up on the other side of a 10-metre wide alley from another ugly beast.

The street interaction is pretty insulting given that it's replacing a Toronto institution in Wayne Gretzky's and Second City. How can the city not show some teeth and demand more than a glorified condo lobby at such a site.

Not much entertainment going to be happening in the Entertainment District soon.

Another highrise for Calgary's Bridgeland "The Bridges" masterplan on the site of the former Calgary General Hospital, the plot of land is the last of two sites to be developed before the area is complete. I don't mind it at all, I'm not impressed by the angled parking, but the original plan didn't call for as much retail as this one and The Dominion are bringing to this section of the neighbourhood, so I guess it makes sense to allow as much people in as possible without overwhelming the streetscape. I like the clean lines, but I wish the white and black parts were fully separate instead of overlapping. Otherwise, pretty good building!

The Bridge - 16 storeys - 52 meters

I like it. Between this and the Dominion there should be a lot of activity in that current dead zone.

^It would be so much better without the angled parking but it's a decent proposal overall.

26 story office tower. This has been in the works for years but was initially rejected mainly due to it's awkward interaction and obstruction with the heritage Waterfront Station next door.

Original 2014 design

The most recent iteration.

2 towers consisting of 29 story condo and 15 story hotel.

There's nothing earth shattering about the design. What is amazing is that these will be two of many towers proposed that are replacing 50s suburbia. Across the street from the massive Oakridge redevelopment.

My mistake, Peter street. It will be a shame if they don't have at least some sort of restaurant or bar in the podium but Wayne Gretzky's has been doing fairly poorly over the years except on big game nights. Also what they did to the exterior of that building was awful. At least Second City stayed in the hood when they moved out.

I don't get all the hate for the angled parking. This isn't downtown and if there's a good restaurant it will draw people from around the city.

I would say this still relates very poorly to its surroundings and looks awkwardly shoehorned-in...

How are/were they able to get air rights over the station? An ambitious design though it does feel a bit awkward.

I agree, this still seems like a really awkward place for it. The Waterfront Station is one of the few historic "grand" buildings we have downtown, this seems to be really tacked on. I feel like the empty parking lot beside is way better for the tower, they don't need a giant useless plaza there and then have the tower itself clinging to the station...

Yea, this looks pretty bad....I keep thinking in a very juvenile way that it's like this buildig is crumpled up because it's desperately needing the restroom. It looks very awkward on it's site and almost like an afterthought....

Not sure how this (The Crystal) could be acceptable for the area. There’s absolutely no attempt to fit in with the area, which is one of the most historic areas of the city. Time and time again the City places importance on this. While I don’t necessarily think a building should conform, there is IMO nothing exceptional about this building. There are some interesting angles on the building, but it looks very much like this will be another that features the same green tinted glass that almost every new office tower is clad in. To me that is unacceptable for this historic part of downtown.

Mercer is a glorified lane. Fortunately, it's not a long block. Still, the aggregate of all these towers will be about as human friendly as the CBD (for different reasons) and not many people live in the CBD. The intent was the form of Wellington to the south and the Germain Hotel LOL.

It's fine. I'm sick of black and white cookies though.
