they did, but were allowed to take the art contribution for about 3 other projects and combine them into this 1 piece. this 1 piece was also wayyy over budget, for some reason...

i doubt that this benefited anyone except the developer. but it was all done with no transparency so we will never know.

That is like saying you cannot buy this certain piece of art as it is to expensive. The nice part is the developer put this on public display for anyone to enjoy, instead of hiding it away in his private home.

People just can't believe that chandelier would cost 23 mil to procure. 5 mil is already a lot for some plastic crystals, steel frames, roatating motor and large bulds. 23 mil would be a massive overkill. Hence there are talks of developer actually getting kickbacks from the maker of the chandelier: just rumours by the way.

According to a news story I read the biggest costs involved were the engineering to get it up on the bridge etc, The piece itself is not worth the 5 million, the installation ate up most of the costs

Either way I love it and the few times I went down to watch it, there was always a good crowd of people, bringing some life to a pretty dull area.

Who said anything about 23 million? All the news reports say $4.8 million for design and installation.

The original budget was $1.2 Million. That ballooned to $4.8 Million (so presumably, the $1.2 Million allocation from 3 other towers were combined into fund just this 1 art project).

Sorry, got the cost of the chandelier wrong, although 5mil still seems like a steep price for that. Then again it's one of a kind so that would've jacked up the total cost. Nicer things come at a premium in this town.

Lots of smaller units coming to the market. So far most of them are on ~20th floor with no view to mention. Pricing seems to be similar to Trump Tower etc. for same size units.

Walked by today and was surprised how much protective film is still on building walls. I guess they will peel them off once they wash all windows for the first time.

I forgot to check out the magnificent chandelier.

Both London Drugs and Fresh St. Market open this week. The market has a new concept small restaurant and bar.

Walked by and looked into Fresh St Market yesterday and saw that they were not really fully stocked but maybe I was wrong. London Drugs looked like they were ready for business.

At the retail unit facing Beach Avenue, an Italian pasta joint is opening up perhaps a month from now: Osteria Autostrada is the name. Says opening Spring 2020.

Their third location - they are on Main near 33rd, and replaced Cinara in the Victorian Block on West Pender near Victory Square (under the same ownership as Cinara, but less formal).

No chance Autostrada opens in a month. They haven't even started building out the restaurant. I bet closer to summer opening
