Wearing a mask isn’t going to prevent you from catching the disease. It’s pointless to wear one in that regard. If you already have the flu, then it makes sense to wear one to limit you infecting other people.

It’s funny. Asians are the ones that wear masks the most, and yet these new viruses keep originating there, and spreading there.

That will put a bit of a bite into YVR, YUL and YYZ's international pax numbers over the next two months.
Loads on all flights to China will be way down in the coming weeks/months. We are seeing reductions/cancellations by almost all carriers. UA, AA, BA, LH, IB, AT. Some of these have canceled all Chinese flights same as AC.

It’s all about China cancellations on Airlineroute.net

https://www.routesonline.com/news/38/airlineroute/

YVR will of course, by the sheer number of flights to China, be the most affected by this. YYZ less so, and even less impact at YUL.

YVR didn’t have a stellar 2019, and sadly this new virus will harm its 2020 intl numbers as well. The only bright spot is that TK should be announcing YVR in the coming days/weeks.

2) - Fredericton (YFC) - 424,324 PAX (+0.7%)
3) - Charlottetown (YYG) - 383,183 PAX (+3.4%)
4) - Saint John (YSJ) - 282,217 PAX (-0.4%)

That sounds about right. YFC and YSJ lost a bit of capacity last year with AC Rouging YYZ. YQM being down slightly is a bit of a surprise.

I didn't realize this but YQM actually has mainline currently for the first time in what a decade or more? The morning flight is currently an E90, the midday is a rouge 319 and the afternoon is a rouge 320.

YYG gained a 2nd daily CRJ to YOW last summer, so it makes sense that they're up a bit. YYG should have at least a 10% gain in 2020 with Swoop to YHM and WS to YYC launching. YYG should easily surpass 400k in 2020.

Until YSJ gets WS back, they'll continue to lag. YSJ is a good example of how WestJet could easily absorb another dozen DH4s into their network.

Here is the press release from the Greater Moncton Romeo LeBlanc International Airport Authority:

Quote:
2019 was a very successful year for YQM!
JANUARY 29, 2020

GREATER MONCTON, NB – As a result of combined efforts from its key airlines partners, Air Canada, WestJet, Porter, Sunwing and Air Transat, the Greater Moncton Roméo LeBlanc International Airport (YQM) achieved one of its best passenger traffic years ever in 2019, with 674,406 passengers. Past record years were over 681K in 2018 and over 677K in 2014.

This is great news considering the impact in the market related to the Boeing 737 Max grounding issue. Airlines continue to be very challenged in regards to fleet management and deployment as a result of 737 Max being withdrawn from their networks. Three of our key carriers have seen very significant impacts with 24 aircraft for Air Canada, 13 for WestJet and 6 for Sunwing being withdrawn from their respective networks and aircraft inventory until this matter is resolved.

2019 was another hugely successful year for domestic cargo activity at YQM with 1,775 aircraft movements from our partners Cargojet, FedEx, and EVAS. Similarly, YQM achieved a record volume of dedicated intermodal international air cargo freighter tonnage with 31 flights by Kalitta Air and Ethiopian Airlines in 2019 carrying 1,842,567 kilograms of live lobster directly to China or to European markets.

“Many thanks to everyone for your efforts in growing our passenger volume and cargo activity in 2019!”, said Bernard LeBlanc, President and CEO of the airport. “With the economic impact that our airport has on the economy of our community and region, we continuously work hard at positioning ourselves to increase our growth and activity at YQM. We remain grateful for the loyalty of our customers, airlines and partners in the business community and government.”

2019 has been a very significant year for YQM, with key accomplishments such as:

Completion of a 6150-foot runway 06-24 resurfacing project
Attainment of level 3 Carbon Accreditation Certification (carbon footprint reduction – only one of 5 Canadian airports in this league)
Increase in our southern destination line-up and addition of the Air Canada Rouge offering
It is also important to note that this winter, YQM along with its airline partners, will be offering 12 weekly direct non-stop flights to southern destinations. New for 2020, Air Transat has added an extra rotation to Punta Cana which means you have the option of leaving on Wednesdays or Fridays to Punta Cana over a 10-week period. Another new addition is Miami offered by Sunwing! This will allow easier connectivity to cruises and another destination in Florida.
I suppose the 737 Max issue might have had some effect on the numbers for YQM, but there was no Max service operating out of Moncton, so they are blaming "equipment shuffling". This could be the case, but this should have equally affected YFC and YYG, and both these airports showed improved numbers.

In any event, last year was the third best year on record at YQM for overall PAX, and this year will see the arrival of 6x weekly service to Hamilton via Swoop, which should have a positive impact moving forward. I look forward to the day that YQM surpasses 700,000 PAX.

HU had applied for the suspension of YVR-SZX and reduction of YYZ-PEK to 4x weekly from Feb 17 to Mar 28.

In all, HU had applied for suspension of 49 international routes and reduction of 11 others.

Lmao, I love how state run carriers need to apply to reduce flights. “Please, stop us from losing more money than we normally do, oh almighty government.”

YVR custodial staff will need to chase down tumbleweeds in the international wing over the coming weeks...

Two weeks ago, Italy and China expanded their bilateral air agreement from 56 to 174 flights a week.
This week, Italy has now banned all flights from China. Lol

Will be interesting to see if other countries follow suit.

Air Transat will increase its YQB-CDG route from 3 to 5 weekly instead of the 4 weekly that was initially planned. It will be from May to October. They also doubled the frequency for this winter. Very good news as the demand is there for that route. Now let's hope that they will start YOW-CDG as well!

Increased flights into Terrace Airport in the coming months. The Charters from Edmonton will be joined by charters from Vancouver and Calgary. With the new LNG work camp open, the staffing will start to increase. Current weekly staff is about 1000 on site going up to 2000 by the end of the year then slowing going up to 4500 by the start of the actual LNG construction. AT that time there should be daily charters and increased scheduled flights.

London Ontario YXU is reporting 683,155 passengers in 2019, +27% over 2018. Should see another significant increase this year with a full year of Swoop as well as new Rouge to YYC this summer.

So far only AC has cancelled flights. All of the mainland Chinese carriers are keeping their schedules, which represent the majority of flights. But the way this is going, we'll see if that holds up.

I could tell how much joy you took in YVR losing it's China flights, not insecure at all eh?

I wonder if Hong Kong Airlines will pull the plug earlier, but it would be pointless.

Chengdu on Sichuan is suspended until March 31
Shenyang on Sichuan is suspended until March 29
Nanjing on China Eastern ends (permanently?) on Feb 18

Luckily Sichuan is only 3/week but yes just saw that. The big ones like MU, CA, and CZ look to still be operating normally, and they are the one with most frequencies. MU to NKG is still available from what I see, and in the spring/summer?

Doesn’t really matter. At this point, it’s almost a guarantee the westbound flights are near empty.

We will see how that pans out.

Given the US has closed there boarder to non-US nationals who have been in the impacted area of China I don't see any US-China flights lasting for very much longer. That may shift a significant amount of traffic through Vancouver and Toronto.

How are transit passengers from Canada to the US being handled in Vancouver just now.

Started compiling all the info on wikipedia.

YXU is back in the top 20 for 2019. Kicked out YMM in doing so. YQM is down 1 spot this year. YXX, YHM and YXU have double digit growth, all due to Swoop.
