As clear by that congestion graph, Vancouver's abysmal highway network and incredibly poor planning has come back to haunt them. The funny thing is that Vancouver politicians are drafting the new transportation plan and there is not a single word about the highway system. They continually state that "we can't keep building roads" which is so farcical because they never built any in the first place.

Good old London is right up there and that's no surprise. It's only bested by Halifax but even that is rather dubious as Halifax's congestion is due to bridge waits while London doesn't have this issue. I've been to Halifax and getting across Halifax in non-rush hour times is a breeze compared to London.

Wasn't the methodology Tom Tom uses widely discredited?

The fact that the WCE has not expanded beyond the single line also speaks volumes.

The new highway tunnel for Québec city is now expected to have BRT stations built in for electric double articulated buses. Interesting approach to say the least.

I wouldn't be surprised it to be 10G$+ in the end. It's nearly a 10km tunnel with deep BRT stations with a few exchange stations to the streetcar.

Yeah, 4B is really low for a 6km tunnel (by my measure). Wasn't the estimate for a four-lane, 3km Halifax Harbour Tunnel like $2B?

A city that size is going to have a road tunnel that long? I'll believe that when i see it.

Don't ask people not to debate a topic. Just stop making debatable assertions. Problem solved.

The QC government doesn't fuck around with their election promises, which is a odd, refreshing, case in politics.

Not always, i.e. widening A50. Other than that one dossier, though, it’s pretty great to see that QC government doesn’t play political games, like everywhere else in this country.

From the looks of it though, it won’t be a freeway link, which, lol, is sad by my book. According to EasternFreeway who first shared it on Quebec’s Highway Thread, even A-973 may be converted to urban boulevard...* At the end of the day though, I understand that public transit takes priority and that this proposal cuts it.

In English we use B instead of G for a billion. It took me a while to guess.

They even use bn$ in France, I just use the International Unit System like the QC media, it removes ambiguity. Like Anglo media uses k$ and M$ and not G$, go figure...

Though this seems like a long-haul project, my guess is that the CAQ and Legault will obtain at least one other majority term.

So at the very least any of the mega-projects they've green lighted (such as this one) should be well underway by the time there is any serious chance we'll have a government of another colour.

They want to start construction before the end of their first term.

They have a lot of stuff on their plate that I hope they are able to get rolling to at least a "point of no return":

- this project above
- the Quebec City tramway network
- the blue line extension of the métro in east end Montreal
- some type of rapid transit from Notre-Dame Est to Lachine across downtown Montreal
- Gatineau's tramway network

I am probably forgetting some. (The REM I take for granted as it's well underway.)

Gatineau will probably be second term. Just dealing with the city of Ottawa and the NCC will be horrible for the project.

The CAQ is now up 4 points in the polls. https://www.journaldequebec.com/2020/01/...le-vent-dans-les-voiles-selon-un-sondage

I am very very confident the CAQ/Legault will get a second mandate, so looking good for Gatineau too.

It depends on what's being measured and what's the long form wording to refer to 1 billion units of measurement. We're as likely to say one billion dollars (1B$) as one gigabyte (1GB) or one gigawatt (1GW).

And byte’s the most misleading because 1GB is not 1 000 000 000 (9 zeros) bytes but 1 073 741 824 bytes...
