The ideal site is clearly the empty former RCMP site at Windsor Park, but Canada Lands has sugarplum dreams of a dense residential development going up there and all of the millions of dollars they could make from that.

They could ring it with highrises and underground parking under it all!

The field at McMaster in Hamilton is actually on top of a parking garage.

This, I agree with completely. It would be The New Halifax Forum, Home of Maritime Sport. An anchor for the Windsor corridor, accessible by the core, and all three boroughs by arteries and highways respectively. The Wanderers pregame format can be easily mirrored, so parking can be spread out more evenly, adding a couple of buses on the three routes servicing, from DT to what could be a new Uptown. It would be ideal if you could get 2/3s of the crowd non driving, so much easier to manage post game to mitigate the traffic jam.

The underground parking is a clever idea, and could be done with even a shallow sunken bowl. Like where the above mentioned location is.

Yes, that is a great use there. Terrain looks like it wouldn't otherwise be useful for a large sports field like that, so the garage idea definitely works for that. I think they work for universities because they always seem to be short of parking. To do something like this for the Halifax stadium I think would depend on the ability to utilize it at other times besides stadium events. Parking garages aren't cheap and you almost need it to be full during the workday to make it cost effective. I suspect that wouldn't be the case at the Canada Post or the other site down the road. Although depending on what the Forum gets used for, the parking would be useful for that as well.

Don't forget the Rupert Plaza Garage outside Yankee Stadium, with a running track and football field on top.

Will be interesting to see what this announcement is. I wonder if SMU is being looked at for the CFL stadium as they just finished their new arena and now might look to partner with the CFL team (similar to Montreal)?

The announcement is for a "big event", so I don't think it will be stadium related.

Maybe they are planning on trying to hold Touchdown Atlantic again this year, but this time in Halifax.

How about the CFL Draft. Have they announced a location for this yet???

If SMU is talking about being host to a CFL stadium, it won't be in the location of that field. No way you are shoehorning 25,000 or so seats in there now.

My understanding is that SMU stadium can be expanded to 11,000 with temporary seating. Touchdown Atlantic 2019 had approximately that many spectators for the Argos / Alouettes game and the CFL called it a huge success.

I wonder if the CFL is considering a Touchdown Atlantic game in Halifax, knowing they can get the same attendance at SMU, and still call it a success? They already announced a neutral site game for July, so this could just be the announcement to confirm the location - that being Halifax.

Just my thoughts...

That's fine for a game. I was more replying to the suggestion a couple posts up asking whether SMU would look at a CFL stadium, which obviously isn't going to work on the Huskies Stadium site.

Certainly seems to be the case. Do the same thing you've done a few times before, fill an 11K stadium at SMU, call it a day. It'll be the same size crowd they had fifteen years ago when Touchdown Atlantic was last at SMU, and slightly larger than what they had in Moncton last year.

I'm curious about the inclusion of Saskatchewan for the first time, however; Toronto plays at home to Winnipeg less than a week after the game on the 25th with Saskatchewan. One would think SSK would be one of the bigger draws of the year for the Argos in Toronto, so moving that game out of the market is an interesting decision, especially considering they have another home date less than a week later which presumably could have also been moved just as easily.

Do you really think a multi level set of bleachers can fit in that space on the right that currently has 9 rows of benches? There's literally 30-40 feet between the track and the wall. That image just shows a stadium doesn't fit there.

I did it exactly to SCALE. It fits.

Montreal's track has less lanes than SMU's (4 vs. 7).

The second tier of seating is high enough and steep enough that it will fit over top of the gym (The Homburg Centre for Health & Wellness)

There isn't even room enough for half the main level under that upper level. And what about the residence you are burying behind the bleachers on the other side? Sorry, a Google Earth clip job isn't architectural drawings. No way that stadium fits there.

Clearly they would not do the exact stadium design that Montreal has for Halifax. But based on the google earth images matched up to scale it looks feasible if SMU is interested.

It would likely be easier to get money from the Feds and province if it's toward University Sports infrastructure.

Wow we had a real stadium at SMU 50 years ago (Built for 1969 Canada Summer Games):
