Any hotel can claim to be unique, simply by noting its location can make it unique.
My guess is the upcoming W Hotel in Toronto will be a good guide as to what kind of renovations will happen here.
Although more rooms will be welcomed in Vancouver, we already do a much better job than Seattle in regard to luxury hotels. Seattle only has two five star hotels, the Fairmont which can be had for $300-400/nt but the Four Seasons often goes for $700-800/nt. W Hotels are often 4 1/2 stars.
There's a W in Montreal already.. that brand is not new to Canada.
Aloft is more suburban. Calgary has an Aloft hotel.
I stayed at the Aloft in Brooklyn, it's not as fancy as the W hotels, it's the bargain sister brand of the W hotel usually in suburban or airport locations.
If Vancouver area got one I could see one at Brentwood or Metrotown or Richmond.
keep in mind, "the leading hotels of the world" is also a group of upscale hotels including the Nobu hotel, Bellagio, and other high end boutique/one off hotels
If they're going by that phrase, then it could very well by LHW who's managing the new hotel with some one off name
If it's going to be a Marriott brand, I personally would prefer an Edition, Andaz, or Ritz over a W. W's are losing their cachet of being a contemporary, luxury hotel and getting the stigma of being too rowdy; not that there's an issue with that but the branding and designs of Edition and Andaz properties seem more suited for this location.
A Peninsula, Mandarin Oriental, or Waldorf would also be nice.
Of course, an Aman would be great but I'm sure that would not happen in a property like the FS.

I think that you have nailed it jollyburger with SBE/Accor, and probably with "the House of Originals" brand, though some of their other brands could be possible, like Delano, SLS, Mondrian, Hyde and Morgan's. Only one hotel in Toronto, The Hudson under The Redbury brand.

My guess is that CF has already provided all the information needed to identify the hotel operator in the press release. Simply google the right info and the hotel is obvious.
Not going to say much on this topic for obvious reasons, but no, there were no hints dropped in the presser. More info will be coming over the next several months.
I'll stand with my guess thanks, but only time will tell. One just needs to look with what they are doing in Toronto - the building, its location, the type of changes to occur, they are all too similar to be ignored.
