Way too big just for a foundation with basically a plaza on top. I have a feeling that would be room for various amenities or other purposes.

An underground mall or food court would be sweet, although not at all likely. Better still is to have tunnel links to the library and the new office building beside the Centre. Again I'm dreaming.

January 10, 2020 – For the next two weeks:​
Excavation and shoring for the East side of Georgia Plaza will be complete.
Foundations in the West Georgia Plaza will continue.
Concrete stairwell and elevator walls will be placed on the North Tower.
Underslab plumbing rough in will continue for the North Tower.
Backfill for the North Tower slab on grade will continue until the end of January.
Concrete slabs for the lowest parking level on the North Tower will be placed.
The circular ramp slabs for level 5 and 6 parking will continue.
Steel and concrete structure for the Retail Plaza areas will continue.
Level 2 floor slabs (corner of Hamilton and West Georgia Streets) will be placed.
The Hamilton Street sidewalk adjacent to the building will be closed for the duration of the project.
The Hamilton Street southbound curb lane will be closed daily from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm (Monday – Saturday).
The Homer Street curb lane will be used intermittently during the day for deliveries.
All activities are executed within the parameters of the City of Vancouver’s building bylaws.

That's a lot of space under those stairs.
Could be for kitchens and storage for restaurants above?

L2 is the main ground level.

L1 has a F&B space on the Hamilton/Georgia corner but the rest of that end of the building is the mechnical room. The F&B doesn't look like it connected in any way to the restaurant above.

Underground it seems like there's a mix of parking and ramps for residential units. There's 7500 sq feet of office storage down on L3 but it only seems to have two staircases leading down to it.

That would be the parking levels with the solid wall to the side and mechanical starting here there are columns.

But do those columns in the pit mean they've bottomed out? I thought they would need to go down at least two more levels.

Yeah, that means it has bottomed out.
The pit looks deeper on the QE Theatre side than the Homer side based on the height of people at the far end and the garage access opening.
(ie it looks like 3 levels can fit at the far end, but the near end is questionable, but it could be the angle of the photo)
Could be that the floor is sloped(?)

Actually the updated architectural drawings from 2017 has no P3 parking just the office storage.

Maybe those columns are the base of the floor for P2?

That would explain why there's only one access opening at the far end (ie none on the level below).

Construction Updates

March 20, 2020 – For the next two weeks:​

• Level 1 suspended slab will be complete in the West Georgia Plaza
• Level 2 (street level) slab forming will be underway in the West Georgia Plaza
• Slab on grade for the interior of the building will be complete
• Concrete stairwell and elevator walls will be commence above Level 1 in the North Tower
• Level 1 concrete slab will be complete in most of the North Tower
• Forming of Level 3 in the North Tower will commence
• The circular ramp slabs for parking levels 5 and 6 will be complete to the fourth floor
• Level 3 floor slabs will be complete in the South Tower
• Level 4 floor slabs will be placed in the South Tower
• Level 5 columns will start to be placed
• Truss installation at the future loading down area will be complete
• Miscellaneous concrete demolition will continue throughout the building
• The Hamilton Street sidewalk adjacent to the building will be closed for the duration of the project
• The Hamilton Street southbound curb lane will be closed daily from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm (Monday – Saturday)
• The Homer Street curb lane will be used intermittently during the day for deliveries
• All activities are executed within the parameters of the City of Vancouver’s building bylaws
