Central Park (the area) has seen quite a bit of a natural resurgence in the last few years, no doubt tied to some of the cosmetic upgrades of the park in area. A lot of new immigrants have moved in, mostly from Africa, and really changed the neighbourhood in a positive way. It continues to trend in the right direction, it's only a matter of time I think before we see some new towers there.

It's a great little area with lots of amenities, and I think PP redevelopment will help it even more, as there won't be a wall of sorts blocking it off from downtown.

I agree, that proposed access at Edmonton Street would definitely help.

I can understand why you'd feel that was a logical caveat. You would probably be shocked to know the way the Housing First recovery model works. Chronically homeless individuals with mental health struggles and addictions are given unlimited chances. That is to say when they get evicted from their home they are simply moved into another place, this happens as many times as it takes. Sounds insane on many levels, but apparently it's working better than previous Treatment First model.

Or at least updated into a drug/alcohol-free homeless shelter of some kind. There isn't much business on that strip that might complain about "those people" (what i imagine are their words, not mine) and it would certainly fill a need.

Opening date for the Hyatt House near the Outlet Mall now pushed back to May 1, 2020:

I'm not surprised to hear this... I remember the original Sandman took seemingly forever to build for such a simple project. It was as though there was just one guy with a saw and a hammer doing it all by himself...

I drive by daily And definitely confirm that it is moving along, not super fast but moving along.

I don't know for sure, but IMO it's probably safe to assume that it's dead. I mean, it seemed dead even before the fire, but the fire would have put any doubts to rest.

I'm generally not crazy about recladding or significantly altering buildings, but I can live with the new windows on MAB... it looks pretty good.

The new owners haven't renamed (rededicated) it yet, but yeah, the "new MAB" looks fine with the larger windows.

I like the way they left some of the smaller windows in, makes it a bit more visually interesting than if it was all just the same big squares. I'd imagine those are likely the bathrooms.

I heard some rumblings today about some upcoming projects. One exchange one should be announced in a month or 2 and another for a surface lot on an important corner that hopefully we will hear about in summer/fall. No details....
