Sunny and 1C.

Lake Ontario has had a lot of different looks this week. One reason I don't get bored of walking to the lake, never the same.

Today

Yesterday

Friday

Wednesday

Monday

Didn't walk there Tuesday or Thursday, who knows what it was looking like those days.

2 cm of snow at YYT as of 3:30 local time, with about another 40 to go. Winds will pick up over the evening to give reduced (or near zero) visibility.

Almost all of Southern Ontario experienced a blizzard tonight. Was pretty freaky experiencing most of it from the front seat of a 3.5 hour (supposed to be 2.25 hour) Greyhound ride from Toronto to Woodstock, with whiteout conditions for the last 15 or so minutes on the 401. A friend driving back up from Windsor said they didn't get much down there, but accumulations start to be noticeable around Chatham. I'd say we got a good 10 CM in the London to Kitchener region, maybe more.

YYZ got a few centimetres, but nothing drastic. Hope I don’t have flight delay in the morning.

I fell asleep before Mississauga and woke up after Milton and the 401 tarmac was white, I was like "Oh shit". The storm is dissipating quickly though. Your flight should be fine!

Our 3rd snowfall warning this season has been issued by Environment Canada. 15-25 cms expected.
20-30 for the local highway passes.

-5C with a wind chill of -12 and sunny this afternoon. Although colder, it feels good to have the sun back while the temperature is reasonable for this time of the year.

The warmspot was Sable Island, NS at 10.0C.

Here I was coming to this thread to complain about us getting a cm or two of snow overnight. The roads are already all melted.

Sunday was another day when we kind of had a bit of everything except snow in Vancouver. Some scattered shower activity in the morning and then the wind came blasting in. Nice to see some blue sky but hold onto your hat! Very brisk throughout the afternoon and then the evening was calm and pleasant. I think we're still supposed to trend towards colder and drier weather over the next while. I wouldn't mind the drier part as long as it's calm.

Sunday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 7 C, the low was 4 C.

Great pics. Looks like a movie set.

If the forecast holds, there is some wicked cold coming in about a week to Western Canada. I think the best we can hope for is that it moderates somewhat before then.

Highs and lows from TWN:

Vancouver:

Jan.13 -2/-5

Jan.14 -3/-5

=====

Calgary:

Jan.13 -25/-29

Jan.14 -25/-31

=====

Edmonton:

Jan.13 -29/-33

Jan.14 -29/-32

=====

Saskatoon:

Jan.13 -29/-32

Jan.14 -31/-34

It was rainy and the temp hovered around 2 to 3C here last night. Super windy too.

An even 40 cm of snow fell at YYT, with similar amounts all over the metro area. Significant drifting in spots though, the snow on my back deck was up to my waist due to the drifting off the roof.

Current snow depth at YYT is 63 cm, which is the deepest its been in 6 years (previous was 2014 which was the #darknl winter)

Not much of a break either, looks like a mid-week storm is in store for all of Atlantic Canada. Could be a huge snow producer for everyone.

We really have not had that bad of winter yet. Very little snow on the ground in the Edmonton area. I was in Calgary a few days ago and they had about 3 times more snow. Was able to get out for a few bike rides over the holidays. Trails are packed and grippy. was even able to get out for a long gravel ride one day. -5C was the coldest day out. Now with the weather changing it is time to hit the gym.

One thing I did notice that when ever we get cold weather in the forecast, all the car washes are busy, long lines.

Mountain parks have been getting the snow which is good. and if the forecast is right. we may see a slow down in Pine Beetles next spring.

Good thing I have to projects out doors today and tomorrow. After that Its office time during the cold spell.

Also glad I missed out on the west coast storms. Looks Like Kitimat got quite a bit of snow. Hopefully the weather is better when I head Back in a few weeks.

Speaking of car washes, are you ever curious when you see people lining up at car washes or DIY in their driveways when you know the weather that night or next day is going to be raining and thus defeating the purpose of washing their cars?

The next time they drive them they are going to get splashback from cars in front of them and their cars are going to be coated in that rain/dirt mix.

I've been observing this and asking that question for about 15 years now.

There are some explanations like washing the car periodically to maintain it or they have an all season pass to the carwash so it doesn't matter. Or they just came back from the cottage having driven down dirt roads. But I think this is very much in the minority.

Occasionally I'll go to coin-op to spray the car during winter and spend 6 bucks doing it. But any other time I've ever gone through the wash and DIY it's to make my car look good, complete with tire foam/spray, knowing it won't rain for at least the next three days.

The Wednesday event in southeastern NB is supposed to give us only 5 cm. Another storm on the weekend will be mostly a rain event, followed by a bit of snow at the end.

There's nothing apocalyptic on the horizon for us, but we have reestablished our usual winter pattern of storms about every three days.
