It looks like the design has changed and the developer is now Cowboy Partners instead of the original developer/design team that won the RFP.

Wasn't this always a partnership with Cowboy Partners and Form Development?

Just asking as I can't remember myself.

According to BSL it was always Cowboy. One of the buildings is even named Liberty Uptown haha.

Okay. I assumed wrong. I was also thinking of the wrong building. I'm glad they're finally starting on part of it, at least. I wonder when the rest of the development will begin. I like the overall design.

It will be nice to breathe some new life into the old Public Safety Building. That thing looks like it's straight out of the 1980s USSR.

Is it just me or does Cowboy Partner's seem to pull a bait and switch on just about every one of their developments? The final project always seems to be far more non-descript than what they orginally present.

I'm glad to see this project go up, but I have to admit I always cringe a bit when Cowboy Partner's are involved.

Same question as Orlando...Has there been any word as to when the bulk of the remaining project will start construction?

Original Cowboy Partner renderings provided to BuildingSaltLake.com

Latest iteration of the Magnolia released recently. Small photo but clearer views of the front design when compared to the original. Popouts and interesting window configurations seem to have been nixed. Not surprised, it's what we've come to expect from Cowboy Partner's.

That building, along with the Garff Tower, are two of the last examples of that type of architecture in SLC. They are gems.

In this case, there was push back on the design of the Magnolia because the original design didn't mesh well with the Public Safety Building. So I think Cowboy redesigned it to address this complaint.

That's 95 state but that picture has to be from a month ago because the concrete has already been poured in and steel is beginning to rise on the core. Btw someone posted a link to the kutv cameras awhile ago but I'll post it again. It usually moves between Tower 8 and Liberty Sky http://youtah.com/utwxcams.php

I didn't mean for my comment to come off as negative toward that style of architecture. I am quite fond of it, just meant that having it full of life and not deserted will be nice. I worded it poorly.

Plus The Morton is about 1/3 full and Moda Luxe appears to preparing the buildings for demo in the near future. Lots of infill in that area.
That's fantastic for downtown density's sake to have so many new feet on the ground. I know what a huge difference it makes having witnessed the seemingly sudden transformation of downtown L.A. these past ten years.
All of the new mid-rise and high-rise residential has transformed downtown Los Angeles from partially dead at night and on weekends to incredibly vibrant and full of activity both days and evenings, especially on weekends.

PopPunk, you mentioned The Broadway and it looks like they must have released an updated rendering. I was curious since the original project had been rejected, but there were no new renderings out there publicly, yet they had started construction.

I like the materials chosen and their placement. The metal balconies work especially well on this design. I assume there will be a break in the middle. The rendering doesn't show it clearly but I guess after the break they
will continue to the other end of the block. I would love to get a description of what they're going to do with that break. If there will be an attractive plaza, an east/west walkway through the block etc., etc. I'm wondering also
if that second half is being built now or will it be constructed later. Anyone notice if there is also a lot of activity on the other end of the block?

Garrott, I'm sure you're incredibly busy with all of the projects and announcements that continue every week. If you do get a chance could you update us on the details of the new revisions of the Broadway?

It will face 200 S and 300 S and is about 315 E. These renderings show the 300 S face.

Both ends of the block are seeing a lot of excavation. I'll get some pictures this weekend.

My opinion might not be a popular one... but just because something is an example of a type of architecture doesn’t necessarily mean that it should be preserved. A lot of architecture from the 1950s through the 1980s was cheap looking, poor quality and just plain ugly. I can look at buildings built 100 years ago and still think that they’re beautiful. A lot of those buildings are aesthetically timeless, and I’m all for preserving them. But the Ken Garff building looks like a really tall trashy aluminum shed that you might’ve found in someone’s backyard in the 80s. I would honestly care less if they tore the thing down or gave it a re-clad. Some parts of history just aren’t worth saving and are more of an architectural embarrassment than anything. The church office building is another one that I would love to see get a re-clad. That thing is easily one of the most hideous building in our city and it sticks out like a sore thumb. I feel pretty much the same about all the stucco crap they’ve been building over the last 10 years. These apartment buildings that they’ve been building are going to age horribly. I think that we will regret them in 30 years if they even last that long.
