My view is that sonysnob is clearly very offended at this discussion and since I already have several people sending me harassing private messages because of my opinions on things I think I'll just shut up.

I've driven Highway 7 between Kitchener and Guelph during rush hour, it definitely makes our demands seem petty. At least 11/17 is largely pothole free; some segments of Highway 7 *which were recently paved!* were worse than dirt roads.

To be fair, there’s always a difference between subjective and objective safety, so I can see why sonysnob, being a traffic engineer, gets offended easily when swimmer_spe and I start dreaming. Not that I’m saying that it’s wrong to dream. We do need visions sometimes. But yea, it hurts when reality hits.

As always, wave_46’s view’s the most nuanced, though we’re in disagreement over this matter.

Sometimes you guys just need to be brought back down to earth.

It's not even about vision. Anyone can draw lines on the map. Personally, I love highways, (have you seen my youtube channel?), it's just all this fantasy stuff comes down to economics. You can dream all you want about this grand highway vision, but the money has to come from somewhere.

You know it reminds me of when a politician moderates a political page about them. They only want their narrative heard.

I will try to engage less with you as you only want to here what can exist inside your little box. I respect that, but it has no bearing on anything more than shutting down anything that is not already planned/built.

I'm heading back to Ottawa from Manitoba. Got as far as Kenora tonight. The TCH was closed from Kenora to TB but should be open in the morning. I'm aiming for Cochrane tomorrow and Ottawa by New Years Eve.

We're getting a crazy snow storm right now, there are snowdrifts on my street a couple feet high. The wind is coming off the lake, which isn't frozen, so we're essentially getting lake effect snow. MTO doesn't actually show any highway closures (it actually shows 17 from Kenora to Raith as partially cleared) but for his safety it's better he waits until morning. Thunder Bay has essentially shut down for the day. Ironically, "Winter Fun Day" was cancelled due to the winter storm.

It was 3 degrees until a few days ago. I wore shorts on Friday.

Fair enough. I drove along Lake Superior Shore at night once near the end of April. It was a time when I didn’t use winter tires yet. I saw snow at 12 am and freaked out.

Interesting... Once I left K Town at 2:30 pm central time and passed by Nipigon at 11:30 pm eastern time (with stops at Dryden and at T Bay). You should have been able to make it to Nipigon no problem.

Yes I could have, but I didn't know the hotel situation there so I opted for T-Bay.
