COS will be great for Robson! Wonder if they'll keep the Gastown location?

COS is typically a high-street staple in Europe and is not typically found in neighbourhoods like Gastown. Robson is a much better fit IMO.

It's parent H&M, usually positions it in higher-end malls and top-tier high streets.

Well, I was in Williams Sonoma today looking around for bargains, and one of the employees said they are no longer closing(!). Still some clearance deals to be had, but more inventory is coming in 2020.

Good to hear, I just found a gift card from about 2-3 Xmases ago with some money left on it and was planning on getting in there ASAP to use it up. Now I won't rush.

They take down the For Lease sign? The listings for the space are still up though.

I wonder if the landlord realized they had overplayed their hand, and buckled?

No idea. Maybe W-S finally blinked. Hopefully somebody around here has the full story.

I think it's more likely the landlord conceded enough to help them stay put for a while longer. There is enough bad news going around about South Granville that the departure of another marquee tenant only would have made worse.

They did indeed take down the signs that suggested they were closing and the store isn't all 30% off anymore. I didn't ask someone about why that happened but it would appear that they are staying put. I can't comment on the 'For Lease' sign that's on the building though....that might come down at a later date.

I wonder if they were offered a shorter lease commitment at a lower rental cost. They do have intentions on being elsewhere in Vancouver so perhaps a 2nd location may open in the next couple of years or they'll just move.

Pics on Daily Hive look really minimalist - not even any art on the walls.
Looks like a pop-up or warehouse store.

that's what COS is.

minimal, the clothes are very minimal and not very appealing to the masses. They usually situate the store with high end neighbours. In Tokyo the one store was near Issey Miyake, Stella McCartney, Prada etc.

Been to several COS locations in Europe, locations are usually quite busy and prices aren't super high-end. Minimal seems to be the trend these days, check out OVO and Reigning Champ. Fast fashion chains are covering all bases these days and typically have a higher-end versions of their mainstream brand, H&M has COS, Zara has Massimo Dutti.

I believe Aeropostale is also launched again in Canada in Bluenotes stores, testing a possible re-entry?

It's a partnership between Bluenotes and Aeropostale.

Aeropostale is planning to open 20- 30 (I believe) new stores in Canada according to the article I read a few weeks ago.

Quote:
This is only the beginning though because the American brand is looking to open up 20-30 of its own stores across Canada by the end of 2020, according to a news release.

I like COS but I just feel weird in the clothes lol. They are good though I like the aesthetic.

Speaking of Sungiven on this thread, the one on Broadway @ Blenheim opened over the weekend replacing the Rothman & Co linen store. Retail seems to struggle in that further corner of Broadway so it'd be interesting to see how an "ethnic" grocery store does. It would operate without much competition as the closest relatively larger Asian grocery in the area other than H-Mart.

The Gap in Pacific Centre is in liquidation as the store is closing down, I think thats the last store in Vancouver proper for the brand.

If you're looking for jeans they are all $32 right now after 60% off. Everything is 40 - 50% off.

Isn’t there still one in Metrotown?
