Great so now we are using tax payer money to subsidize keeping a parking lot a parking lot and to drag Tom into some new iteration of the diner. Seems like the absolute worst of all worlds -- at least if he just offloaded the diner completely there might be a chance the new owner would bring in a menu with a few edible items.

I do wonder what GBX's end game is here -- clearly no legitimate business (of which GBX seems to be one) would walk into Tom's Diner and be like 'the guy who runs this place really has something going here......we should go into business with him.'

With all these 1000s of new units in GT, I hope the city will put forward some ideas on how to make Speer more friendly to walk cross.

GT folk aren't really the type to walk around in public, so I don't see a huge demand coming from the residents for making things pedestrian friendly.

The proposed 5280 loop comes into the GT on 12th, heads south on Acoma, and then will cross Speer around 8th or 9th into Sunken Gardens Park. So that will help.

I’m ecstatic that Tom’s Diner has been saved! It’s about time some MCM buildings in Denver get protected. The article isn’t specific, is there an addition still planned for the rear of the property?

To me, something is "historic" when it existed prior to people living today and thus is from the past history, not present/current era. While 100 year old people are living relics from our historical past, 75 year olds are not. So for me, if it was built in the last 75 years, it was built in the current era, and not the historical past. If a building can survive to reach past the age of 75 years old, then we can start the conversation about historic preservation.

CM Hinds (CD10) asked for money to help to pay for the Uptown portion of the loop after the previous CD10 CM New spent his entire 2019 budget on kickbacks to RNOs, but CM CdeBaca (CD9) killed it.

The loop will happen eventually, but paying for it will take years. At least they're no longer going to allow cars to park on the sidewalks around the capitol.

The 5280 will be implemented in phases over the coming decade. The 21st Street segment is the first to go and funding is being lined up. After that will likely be the Acoma stretch in the GT. It’s a high priority for the City and the DDP so it will happen over time.

Still, the rich get richer. Google is considering leasing all of the 1.75 million Sq Ft in Brookfield Properties’ Pier 70 mega project in San Francisco. That would add to the 1.9 million Sq Ft Google already leases in the city. Interestingly, San Francisco is now limiting the amount of future office space that can be built. There's no stopping Seattle and Austin it would seem but it's nice to see Denver climbing the ladder.

Fantasies are always in vogue. I wouldn't be surprised, however, to see the two segments Ken mentions be accomplished over the next decade.

Will new projects along the Loop have to meet the streetscape guidelines? I’m thinking about the Capitol Square apartment project at 13th & Sherman or the Mill Creek project at 12th & Bannock.

As properties along the loop are developed, the developer will likely have to install elements of the Loop's cross-section and streetscape design as part of the normal development requirements. In other cases, segments will be installed as part of a capital improvement project by the city. At over 5 miles in length, the loop will evolve into existence. I would imagine that once a segment or two is in place, there will be good political momentum to finish the remaining segments sooner rather than later.

I like the glass paneling that is going up. It is darker than I thought and reminds me of some of the buildings in Seattle. Does anyone know whether there will be any exterior illumination on the tower?
