I guess if the mall is really going to disappear in a few decades, then may be there is no need for the new pedestrian bridge.

Exactly. He brings up the 'bus loop around the station' thing again too - despite it being shot down years ago.

Well. There is still a lot of uncertainty in various areas.
Funding was originally allocated for the project in 2019 but part of it was reallocated to other project. Same thing might happen again next year.

According to Burnaby’s new director of planning and building, Ed Kozak, planners are considering whether to severely constrain traffic on Central Boulevard, or maybe even close it. If that happens, a new footbridge across the street might not be needed.

Ivanhoé Cambridge, the mall owner, is now starting the mall redevelopment planning. According to Graeme Silvera, the vice-president for development and retail, the first phase in the next decade will be in the parking lots facing Kingsway. Though it will take a few decades, but eventually the existing bus loop will need to be removed when the site is ready for redevelopment. Where can the bus stops be moved?

A&W has now open at Joyce station's retail location.
I wish Translink had built a bigger retail space there as the store only has 3 tables that can sit 12 people.
I wonder whether A&W can apply to put some extra tables outside the store.

The unusual bit to me is that there's ample space in the concourse as it is right now near the stairwell. Not sure why they didn't carve out more space for the retail unit, even if it's only the "long strip" on the South side of the station.

Who cares . It's a skytrain station . You grab your food and scarf it down fast . Who the hell wants to hang out at a skytrain station any longer than they have to . Unless you're some homeless crackhead .

Arguably that retail space is part of the neighbourhood, as it is not enclosed within the station.
ie. it could be a pitstop on the BC Parkway.
So some amenities would be nice for it.

Chill. Sometimes people (non-crakhead) do wait around at the skytrain station. Would be nice to have a warm place in the winter to have coffee while waiting for a friend who's late, etc. You just never know.

Walked by the other night and the new A&W below the guideways does bring in some cheer to that otherwise drab neighbourhood.

On the train platform, it does look really good with the new LED displays and shiny modern white tiles of the elevators and stairwell walls.

New LED signs on the platform are installed and working at Holdom, and installed (but not working) at Sperling. It seems they reconsidered having just one sign and have installed two sets of them at both Sperling and Holdom. The mounting brackets are in the process of being installed at Brentwood and Gilmore.

No. I've already submitted feedback about the lack of uniformity, but it makes sense. It's a waste of money to replace perfectly good screens that are barely 4 years old.

$28M transfer kickstarts new Canada Line station construction

Construction of a new Canada Line station will soon get underway following the transfer of millions of dollars in developer-supported funds from the City of Richmond to Translink.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the city announced it has handed over $28 million to the transit authority to begin plans for the construction of Capstan Station.

The latest addition to the Canada Line will be built in the area of No. 3 Road and Capstan Way, between the existing Bridgeport and Aberdeen stations. The city hopes it will accommodate the roughly 6,000 new residential units in the Capstan Village area.

"This is an excellent example of how the City of Richmond works with developers and partners such as TransLink to build strong communities," said Mayor Malcolm Brodie.

Plans were first envisioned in a 2012 agreement between the city and Translink to support growing development in the area. In 2017, work on the concept design began after a $1.1 million transfer.

The city said further work can now be undertaken to finalize the station's design.

Capstan Station is expected to be complete around mid 2022.

If you mean on the Expo Line - it's not gonna happen. It got moved over to Patterson and the spacing between the stations is way too close for the density (which isn't likely to increase by much for a long time).

Joyce seems too close as well. But Boundary does have more new towers going up than anything at Patterson.

I wonder if Swanguard became a full fledged MLS "Stadium" if the case for a boundary station would have been bolstered, the Telus Boot is massive but how utilized/full is it? North of Kingsway there isn't much to redevelop with increased density, with a fair amount of new townhome developments having been built in the past twenty years.

If Expo were to be built today, I'd argue Boundary would have been a better spot than Patterson, it also allows for a better feeder to Burnaby Hospital/BCIT/employment centre. And RT line to UBC via Kingsway/41st
