Can we pack these people into trucks and ship them to Yukon or even Siberia? It's plenty rural there (Just kidding).

Proven right once again regarding Vancouver folks (Not kidding).

Probably the same people who insisted that the Canada line be buried underground . . . then turned around and sold their homes to the developers.

Hey, at least that one's got old and young supporters; this one only comes into play because almost everybody who's not a semi-retired homeowner is too busy with something else to show up.

Of course it's important to keep in mind that people were also specifically told these workshops had nothing to do with housing or density, but focused on the public realm.

For those interested in contributing, here's links to the survey and the information from the events.

City of Vancouver wants $3.8 million from PCI for the portion of the lane the developer wants to close as part of the Broadway & Granville development. Seems reasonable.

Technically a lot less than they had paid for certain areas and less than they were assessing land nearby for (around $1800-$2000/sqft). 1451 W. Broadway next door that I believe the city is using to store items for the skytrain construction sold for $2395/sqft in 2018 while this sold for $1652/sqft. They are giving a right of way at the back but it still seems like this was sold cheap (then again, who else would you sell it to and the city got a skytrain station too). Within a block of this some sales have been for $2000/sqft or higher, mostly to PCI. 2590 Granville St. a block away South sold for $2564/sqft back in 2016. 2331 Granville a block away North is listed at $1860/sqft

As this wasn't a simple sale I'm not sure if the taxpayer got screwed or not on the sale. PCI has been quietly buying up the block under other company names. There are nearby sales within a couple blocks, some lower than $1800 some higher. Prices seem to be pretty random even among C3-A zoned lands. $1800/sqft seems to be the asking price if your a few blocks from the skytrain and not on Broadway or Granville.

After a chill Broadway purchases seem to have picked up some. 1060 West 8th designated C3-A just sold for $19,736,000 with a 11,300sqft lot. Its half a block west of 8th and Oak.
$1750/sqft is less than what Granville & Broadway is getting but still pretty high up. Other smaller sales land and strata lot sales have been happening down Broadway in Dec & January. Seems like the Commercial market has picked up some.

Return of Fairview Pub at proposed Vancouver hotel project unknown
http://://www.straight.com/news/1352131/...proposed-vancouver-hotel-project-unknown
Oh of course the Fairview Pub is worth saving more than having a new hotel built in the 2nd biggest employment centre of BC. Makes a lot of sense right?

Though it would be nice if it was saved....I question the wisdom of having a pub near a hospital. I guess its nice to have the hospital nearby for incidents but also I don't people leaving/at the hospital to be tempted. Definitely don't want the doctor to be sneaking a beer in between appointments.

Assuming this hypothetical drunk doctor worked at VGH, that would be a very fast way to get fired and then blacklisted throughout the country.

And who's to say that the hotel wouldn't have a lounge or a bar in it either ?

Bring on bars, I say! So long as there is a business case for them.

Why must you come up with the most ridiculous scenarios?

We should probably not build the new St Paul's so close to the DTES. What if a doctor sneaks out for a back alley hit of black tar heroin before returning to do heart surgery?

Is this more or less ridiculous than showing 🞵🞵🞵🞵 photos of yourself to patients?

https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/reg...ctor-who-showed-naked-photos-to-patients

Or a certain elevator Vancouver tech someone discovered was parking near the building (so the GPS says he did the visit) and going across the street to the pub each visit instead of doing the service for over a year? (PS: He didn't get fired because he's union, instead they had to pay for his rehab).

Seriously doctors are well known to have substance abuse issues. Its a high stress job.

But yes as scryer pointed out likely the hotel will have a bar anyway.

Interesting that you want to nanny-state everything. I thought you were a free market, personal responsibility kind of guy?

Exactly. It specifically said there would be pub/lounge space on the ground floor of the hotel.

BTW I was being sarcastic about the Fairview Pub being saved. It's such a rundown place and it's time to go.

Yeah I admit saying that was a mistake lol.

And yes but also I do believe in reasonable restrictions like 🞵🞵🞵 control (but not banning) and jail.

Any doctor who shows up to work drunk is unlikely to remain a doctor for long. And I'd argue that they're entitled to a cold one after they're done for the day.
