Hopefully there will be reason soon enough to start a thread dedicated to a new central downtown public library. Saskatoon approved the loan request (less the contingency fund). This should still be more then enough money to build, if not an iconic library, at least a pretty special one! And at only $5 per year for taxpayers, I agree with one councilors assessment that this is a very good investment.

Didn't hear anything about the Downtown BID's special request to have convention centre considered in budget deliberations. Hope that and the arena gets rolling too. Can you imagine if we had library, arena and convention centre all on the go at once!!

It does look like 🞵🞵🞵🞵. But I would caution anyone from taking this seriously as a legitimate proposal with a real chance of happening. It's a property owner fishing for tenants, who invested next to nothing in money or thought in a concept sketch that illustrates the expansion potential of the existing building. Given the state of the office market, and the quality of other options relative to this one, it won't happen.

I would rather see the proposed building kitty corner from it proceed if one WERE to proceed.
But given it has been at least 5 years(?) since that one has been proposed, likely won't happen either. I just thought with some First Nation funds, it had a better chance.

Does anyone know what the structure that's going up on the east side of RUH near the Cancer Centre is? There's currently a 3 floor steel frame with what might be an elevator shaft rising another floor or two above that. Not a huge footprint but it appears to be a freestanding structure rather than an addition to another building (although I could be wrong on that). Was just curious because I pass by there often but haven't heard anything.

I heard that it is a backup powerplant for the hospitals.

The second photo in that slide set is pretty cool showing the erection of the building from across the Broadway bridge...

I find it interesting that when looking at the original architect's model, the hotel was taller than the condo - opposite of what was actually constructed.

Would love to see the facade upgraded similar to how 360 main in Winnipeg looked boring like these two towers until a year ago.
