Just brutal...

-8C with a wind chill of -15 this afternoon and overcast. A WHOPPING 10C below normal.

Low this morning was -12 (wind chill -19).

The warmspot was Cape St James, BC at 9.2C.

November 2019 was the coldest on record at Trudeau airport with a mean temperature of -1.4C. Old record was -1.0 in 1995 so we break the record by almost half a degree which is a huge for monthly mean record.

Very curious how EC stopped showing yearly mean since 2013. We'll probably see a mini cooldown in the last few year. I might calculate the mean manually for the past few years when I have a bit of time.

Climate change..... displacing the polar vortex out of the arctic, weakening the northern jet stream thus allowing it to be more susceptible to cold intrusions during the winter. Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec are ground zero for these intrusions so get ready, our winters will likely get even colder.

For what its worth everyone had a below normal November.... here are a few numbers for daytime highs:

Ottawa, ON= 2.2C (AVG 5C)
Toronto, ON= 4.5C (AVG 8C)
Sudbury, ON= -0.7C (AVG 3.0C)
Windsor, ON= 5.2C (AVG 9.0C)
Montreal, QB= 2.3C (AVG 6.0C)
Moncton, NB= 4.7C (AVG 6.0C)
Winnipeg, MB= -2.1C (AVG 0C)

Grey and cold around Vancouver on Sunday. At least the precipitation held off until the Santa Claus Parade was over. There was some drizzle in the late afternoon and evening downtown.

Sunday's high at Vancouver Harbour was 5 C, the low was 0 C.

There was a very light dusting on the ground this morning in the West End. However, nothing at Tunney's Pasture (I am not sure where the transition to no snow/green grass was exactly as I was not paying much attention).

It's quite sunny right now so snow is unlikely in the short term.

We've had a fairly long period of sub-zero temperatures in Canada's capital region, with little to no snow. It's a fairly rare combination for us for it to be this cold but to have no snow on the ground. My swimming pool is frozen over very solidly but there is no snow on the deck or grass that surrounds it.

There was a thick coating of ice on everything up in London yesterday. Quite the contrast in SW Ontario yesterday. As I drove to London the temperature dropped 7 degrees within about 10 minutes. On the way home in the evening, it rose 5 degrees around the same spot near Dutton.

Since about 2014, we frequently have way below normal temperatures, but hardly ever have way above normal temps.

My weather station averaged 5.6 high, -1.7 low, and 2.0 overall for November. Way below normal, and only three days over 10C. That's probably never happened before, as the average high is supposed to be over 10 for the first week and a half of November.

Ah the infamous Dutton urban heat island.....I spent way too much time there years ago due to a relationship at the time.

Time will tell but isn't some of this stuff cyclical? Were the 1970s not an extremely cold decade?

Its definitely been different the last 5 years or so with extreme cold I cannot remember ever happening. Also the shoulder months have been God awful, November and April in particular. It's almost like we have 2 seasons now, summer and winter, with each being more extreme.

Yes , the 70s were known for cold and snow. Weather does indeed go in cycles. But there is scientific data which does show the upper jet stream breaking down, the Atlantic current slowing (look at the cool anomalies south of Greenland). So its something to watch for sure. There are SO many factors to take into consideration.

But yes since 2013/2014....things have switched to cold mostly for Eastern Canada, the the exception of 2015/2016 with the super El Nino. But yeah more cold months than warm I'd say. Last November was also record cold, this one is just more of the same.

We seem to be having more dragged out winters too, once upon a time winter would be pretty much over in March in Southern ON.... now the cold and winter precip is dragging into April. If the snow begins in November that means 6 months of winter conditions. Not very nice at all.

Currently +0.4C in Moncton at 1 PM and sunny.

Pleasant enough today (and yesterday was nice too), but another messy storm tomorrow.

Moncton again seems to be on the rain/snow border, and the forecast seems to change hourly, but at present, they are calling for snow to begin overnight, transitioning to freezing rain and then rain with the rain/snow line setting up shop over Kent County (slightly to our north) tomorrow morning. The current forecast is for +2C and rain tomorrow afternoon. There will be a little more snow on the tail end of the storm.

Another messy mix with little overall accumulation. Parts of northern NB may see 20-30 cm of snow however.

Bleh. Drizzly, chilly. Miserable kind of day. The current temperature at Vancouver Harbour (4 C) hasn't changed in 15 hours.

We're getting into a pattern where the low is almost as mild as the high due to precip/moisture/humidity:

-1 1 1 1 3 2 1
-2 0 -1 1 0 -2

Yep...

Another day in paradise... -2C with a wind chill of -10 and sunny! Below average of course.

Low of -7C (wind chill of -15) this morning.

The warmspots were Bonilla Island and Kindakun Rocks, BC at 9.5C.
