Even without Price tower, the Chateau, and the waterfront, Quebec City still looks gorgeous.

Swap out the Delta and the tower next to it for a giant house-shaped-thing and it actually looks a lot like St. John's from this angle.

Telephoto lens, right? Or is there an easier alternative these days to bringing the backdrop closer in a photo?

Last year someone on this thread answered my question about why the TO skyline looked so big when shot from Hamilton in so many images. Lots of photographers do this with mountainous backdrops too, making the mountains look domineering over the city but in reality they are quite a ways back.

Lots of examples on this thread from what I can tell. Makes for cool images but gives the wrong impression. Not that I care. It's part of the art of photography.
