There's an application from June for adding to the west parkade and demolition of the level 3 parkade in the future

Quote:
The additional 1.5 levels of the parkade will provide sufficient flex parking surplus to allow for the demolition of the existing level 3 rooftop parkade and the future phases of the Central City Masterplan.

The original Central City West Parkade Development Permit Approval dated March 20, 2000 identifies that the parkade was designed so that two additional levels of parking can be added at sometime in the future.

The final phase of the Masterplan will include the demolition of the parkade structure and the replacement with a more suitable use

I didn't notice the Brick, but Designer Depot looked like it was having a closing out sale. No indication of Club 16 closing yet.

So just to make sure I'm following along correctly: The existing parkade near the food court is going to be expanded upwards, and the rooftop parking servicing Club 16, Bath Bed and Beyond, etc. is going to be demolished?

And then further down the road, they'll demolish the surface parking fronting Boston Pizza and all parking will be in that parking structure?

Do I have that right?

When the KGB surface parking is removed, there will probably be underground parking constructed, but whether that will be available for mall customers is an open question, I guess.

I believe the 2 level expansion to the existing parkade is intended to compensate for the removal of the rooftop parking above Club 16 / Bed Bath Beyond, etc. Will allow for redevelopment of that end of the mall.

Future redevelopment of the King George surface parking could involve underground space for mall parking. Depends on what gets built I guess. Central City 2 will be the start of it. Doubt that will include mall parking but it could.

They had mentioned 900 parking spaces for Central City 2. But I guess there's no point in mall parking since they are already adding spaces in their existing parkade.

Bed Bath & Beyond boosts store closure estimates, says 60 stores may close by end of 2019 - Oct 2 2019
Quote:
Bed Bath & Beyond will close 60 stores by the end of fiscal 2019, the company announced in an earnings call Wednesday. It previously estimated it would shutter 40 stores.

Interim CEO Mary Winston said the decision is a result of its work to optimize its fleet. “With this action we are increasing the profitability of our remaining portfolio, and believe that our remaining fleet will benefit from our renewed focus on driving traffic and operating efficiency,” Winston said.

The company said it will close about 40 Bed Bath & Beyond stores, and 20 stores from its other concepts.

Also Wednesday, the company posted mixed second-quarter earnings and its tenth straight quarter of same-store sales declines. It reported adjusted earnings per share of 34 cents, topping analyst estimates of 27 cents. Sales of $2.72 billion were slightly lower than expectations of $2.752 billion.

The company has also been focused on near-term priorities to turn around its business including stabilizing sales and driving top-line growth, resetting its cost structure, reviewing and optimizing its asset base, and refining its organization structure.

Winston said the company has been making good progress on achieving its priorities. The home goods retailer also said it “has made substantial progress toward identifying a permanent CEO” and expects that it will make an announcement soon. Steven Temares resigned from the top job in May, and was succeeded in the interim by Winston.

I knew they were closing stores, I didn't know Canadian stores were affected. I thought with all the plans for Surrey Central they were asked to leave or something. It's a horrible place to shop I don't even look there.

Seems more likely it's just development related.
