They'll be dismantling it floor by floor, implosions in this area could be extremely dangerous. They could be done in a year

^ I remember the implosion of a couple of gas tanks not long before 9/11, which is what my eyes initially thought I was seeing that day.

It's been illegal for decades. Buildings need to be taken down manually.

Here's that tank implosion from 2001. I think there was a building in a housing project (1 building) in Brooklyn or the Rockaways that had to come down that way for specific reasons, but don't recall exactly. You won't see any skyscrapers being imploded in the city though.

I don't think much explanation is needed as to why a 700+ ft /50+ story tower in the middle of Midtown Manhattan shouldn't be imploded.

It would be horribly dangerous to say the least, and just imagine if it didn't go as planned. Imagine the dust/debris and everything else even if it did.

That isn't the reason. Imploding a building in such a dense area is a logistical nightmare, and would almost certainly lead to property damage and injury.

Thanks for the info. I basically thought implosion was not done in the city, however, that some type of mini-implosions, say the core of three floors might be imploded to speed the demo. But the need for permits and assorted red tape would probably negate any benefit. And the safety issues, and 9/11, I thought might have put an end to any type of implosions in the city period.
