WRT subdivision of the space, there is a drywall all to the left that could be the entrance for a subdivided space,
but it overlaps with the Sungiven sign, so it could be a sublease scenario (smaller service providers).

I also popped in to have a look today. They must be really close to opening now. I could see the produce area being stocked. Just in time for the holiday season. I'm sure the other retailers in City Square are breathing a sigh of relief.
There's also that podium for the grand opening speech...
The drywall wall with the guy by the doorway in the last pic could be a subdivided area,
although the Sungiven Foods sign overlaps with it more than you would expect for a separate retailer.
Maybe they will add a future hot food service in that area.
The gold lettering on the wooden fascia to the right of the lit sign says "Healthy Daily Meals Provider"
- so I expect a bunch of prepared meals of some kind.

I'm personally with whatnext on this – unless this place is absolutely amazing, I don't really get why this is getting so much coverage. To me it's more on the side of manufactured hype from the Retail Insider crowd; the average person around here probably doesn't know about this or care too much. But it's good for the neighbourhood to have another option, I guess. Jury's still out.
Probably just because it's new to the market and no one knows what to expect and it's in a central location.
(ie Sporting Life's first BC store got a lot of coverage too)
If it were a FreshCo it would get similar exposure. FreshCo hasn't really made it onto the forum much because their locations are in the suburbs.
This one looks small-ish to me like a Choices.
The even smaller locations will probably be more like Kin's Farm Market.
I'd also say it's interesting because it's an Asian grocery store.
The City of Vancouver doesn't have that many outside of Chinatown.
T&T at Marine Gateway (and Chinatown) and 2 H-Marts - downtown Robson and Dunbar (is that open yet?). Superstore does, however, have big Asian sections.

H-Mart in Dunbar has been open for a while and has generally been doing quite well. At first it looked DOA and I didn't think it had enough demographic to sustain but it's pretty busy and well stocked nowadays, and is much more comfortable to shop through than their Richmond location.
I think Sungiven would similarly also be a much better shopping experience than T&T.

Yes, I'll have to remember to get all a-titter then next time Loblaws opens another City Market.
