Income is generated from jobs in each respective province though. So well paying jobs from one province generates more federal income from said province. So if there are more jobs, and more well paying jobs in one province, more federal tax will come from those people in that province.
I know what you mean of course, but the federal income generated is a function of how well any one province is doing economically.

As far as the rest, yes. So, you know how they are paying hand over fist for oil worker jobs? That is partly what make people think Alberta pays so much, but, fun fact, the largest population of Newfoundlanders work in Fort Mac...
Also, that money people make in all those office towers in Toronto is why Ontario does so well.
