I was thinking about that too. Go along (Old) 22, up the 4, then veer onto 7. Realign 23 to meet 4 at Lucan, and put a 5-way roundabout interchange there.

LoL, I love how none of you guys ever talks about this in the Ontario Highway Thread, but there.

First off... no roundabouts. Full freeway or don't bother.

Second, I have not subscribed to that one. Maybe I should?

No I mean, there will still be a freeway interchange, but the on- & off-ramps, Highway 4 north, County Road 7 west, and Highway 23 north will converge at a roundabout. You know what I'm saying? By the way, I know that the plan for Highway 7 & 8 around New Hamburg is to bypass it to the south, but I feel that it's a waste of the current 4 lanes. Also, bypassing the bypass just sounds weird to me.

Up to you. I've subscribed to your thread about Highway 400 extension anyway.

Edit: Never mind, I did not, but I follow up on the news anyway.

Yes, I'm an old guy and still think in old numbers. 22 and 7 were the same road west of Arkona, now it's just 22. Regardless, splitting off the 402, either at county rd 39 or just west of there and running northwest to 7 east of Arva makes the most sense. I don't see the purpose of going south of that, along 22 into London, just adds needless distance. 22 is still there if anyone wants to go to Masonville to shop, no need to run a 400 series highway there.

A question for everyone. What is the maximum posted speed limit in your province? in Canada? IT is 90 KMPH on PEI, 110 in NB AFAIK,. Do other provinces have other posted limits?

120 km/h on select freeways in B.C., 110 km/h across Prairies, temporarily 110 km/h on select sections of 2 freeways in ON, 100 km/h in Québec, then 110 km/h in the Maritimes except PEI and NL

Now that it’s winter though, we can’t go fast anyway.

Posted 110kmh in NB but you're free to do 140kmh from Edmundston to Fredericton with little to no hassle whatsoever.

I managed to drive on one of Ontario's new 110kmh limited sections this past week which meant I could do 125kmh or so and not have to worry too much about getting pulled over...until I hit the QC border, anyway. :'(

Last time I went to east coast, I saw a City of Edmunston cop heading towards Halifax, and 2 RCMP coming back (though the 2 RCMP cops were going in the opposite direction). I was going 132 km/h and got scared.

Same thing with 417 between km 1 and 104. I saw cops in those U-Turn spots for the first time. Also traffic’s actually heavy now. It kind of reminds me of NS-102 between Truro and Halifax.

I travelled all over BC during the Summer and the only Maximum 120 signs I saw were on the Coquihalla Highway. My GPS showed 120 for some of the highways that are currently 110 and the one place I can remember was North of Parksville.

Here's an article about the reductions: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/speed-limit-bc-highways-reduced-1.4893914

I was aware of the reduction. I just didn’t know that Coqui’s the last one standing now.

The higher accident rates on the Island Highway are to be expected because it is simply a four lane road. Only a very small section near Parksville is grade separated and at freeway standards. 120 is too high on a regular road.

Freaky to think Quebec has pretty much the lowest speed limits of all the provinces and states, and some of the lowest in the western world.

90 km/h for country roads and 100 km/h for freeways (including super-2's and Boulevard Talbot) aren't too bad.

110 on divided highways, 100 on most other roads unless posted. Some are only good at 80 or 90kph max. No lower night time limit and only a couple areas where I saw trucks restricted to 100. So add 10% to that and most people drive 120. Any faster then you are targeted.

Heard from an OPP I knew in TO that said they target people going faster that everyone else or slower.

Cousin in the RCMP here said the same thing. if everyone was doing 130 they would go after the people going faster.

Because of something like that (aka getting targeted for 20 over when the speed limit is 100 in Ontario and for 10 over when speed limit is 110 elsewhere), I can’t help but wonder if 120 km/h is the de facto speed limit in all Canadian provinces except P.E.I.

A little surprising considering the impressive collection of Autoroutes.

Manitoba has 110 limits, but only on relatively short stretches of two twinned highways leading into SK and ND where the connecting roads are arguably better.

Also on the de facto speed limit thing, 10 kmh over is about as fast as I go without worrying about getting pulled over. Getting nailed going 120 in a 100 zone probably means a ticket in MB.

120 is certainly the de facto limit in NB.

On PEI, the de facto limit on the TCH is 100-105 km/hr.

Watching Island drivers on the expressways here in NB and NS is funny. If you see somebody whizzing down the road at 140-150, passing everyone, more often than not it will be an Islander. It's as if once they get off the Island and see a real highway they suddenly go berserk........

Not surprising given the state of those Autoroutes.

I don't think i've ever experienced this. If I ever pass a car going slowly on a highway it's usually either QC or PEI plates.

I have actually heard Ministers of Transport here say that drivers lack the maturity required to drive with faster limits, or that they already drive too fast and way over the limit even though it's 100. Though in my experience it's no longer any worse than other provinces or states.

There is also the design and conditions of the autoroutes but IMO that's no longer as much of an issue. Again, it's no worse than many other places with higher limits.

We have a number of pretty straight stretches of autoroute like this with fairly low traffic that go for 200 km or so, but the limit is still 100:
