It would be pretty cool if ABIA secured a deal with Turkish Airlines for direct flights to/from Istanbul, which is the major hub between Europe/Middle East. I bet that would open up a lot of new destinations.

Definitely would be nice to have Turkish come to AUS, maybe in the long term they will but I don’t think it’s likely short to medium term. Another add that would open up a lot of Middle East destinations would be Emirates. I think Emirates has a greater chance to come to AUS than Turkish does at the moment, Emirates is pretty aggressive in terms of expansion.

Never....it's too small for a direct flight. Need to make connections in Dallas or Houston then fly direct to EDC thank you very much!

We need a daily 747-8 or a A380 from AUS to EDC.

ABJ interview with Jacqueline Yaft, behind a paywall but the refresh trick worked for me. It's a Q&A with a few interesting points, the port is; "trying to work with the European market, the Asian market [and] even the Middle Eastern market to see what flights we can bring in," Yaft said. She also said that; "the interconnectedness of worldwide travel means departure times on other continents will dictate what new international routes the airport can secure."

Interesting read, wish we could get a look behind closed doors to see what is being negotiated, not ever going to happen but it would be very cool to see.

I like this quote too:

"We're not heavy on international," Yaft said. "We would like to be. That's something that we strive to do in the future."

Planning for expansion beyond 2040...I like that:

"We always look for what would be the best layout that would provide, also, the best method for the airport to expand beyond 2040," Yaft said. "That's definitely one of those decisions a lot of airports have to think about."

Or DOH!?!

I'd consider IST Eastern Europe. It's not physically in the Middle East (even though, culturally, it might feel like it - but, so does Greece).

Looks like the port is going with MAG US Lounge Management for the common use lounge.

Also the port has begun the planning process for the realignment of midfield taxiways to accommodate the new concourse.

Also planning the new roadway design for the new terminal building. Seems like they know the master plan will be approved.

Agree. It'll still be tough to open in by Q1 2025 but anything is possible. It'll start to feel more real once they start demolishing the old garage in 2021.

According to this document, the airport seems to expect an answer from the FAA on their master plan on or before November 30, 2019.
