The facade of the new Decathalon on St Laurent is now finished and the store is set to open on Sept 21st.

I looked back over a year but can't see this has been discussed.

Twice in the past 5 months, from two different sources (one definitely unreliable), I've heard that Costco is moving into the Canadian Tire location on Carling (at Clyde N) after the Canadian Tire is built at Carlingwood.

This makes no sense to me at all, I can't see how the land is large enough. But since I heard it again from a second source, I thought I'd check here.

I don't see that happening. The lot is too small and unless they build underground parking, Costco usually requires a lot of parking spaces. I searched "Costco Canadian Tire Carling" on Google just for fun and one person mentioned "he heard Costco will be moving there" back in February. I think those are rumors based on nothing.

There’s a downtown Costco in Vancouver.

There is the adjacent former dairy site that could be knocked down to provide extra parking.

The rumours I heard included using the dairy property.

While Costco is downtown in Vancouver, this isn't downtown, nor handy to transit. And the Merivale location is only 10 minutes away. For that matter, since Ottawa is small, the Cyrville, Barrhaven and Kanata locations are also within 20 minute drives during non-rush hours. Not sure where the location in Gatineau is.

Columbia is opening a store at the Tanger Outlets in Kanata. The sign said Fall 2019. From the outside it looks to be opening very soon.

Farm Boy is building a new larger store at Ottawa Train Yards...

The proposed development at 820 Belfast Road/165 and 197 Trainyards Drive entails the establishment of a 3,530 square metre one-storey retail building to the north-eastern portion of the Subject Property with an accompanying 199 parking spaces. Access is provided along Belfast Road to the west of the building and also maintaining the existing driveway located along the private driveway located just south of the proposed building and an additional private approach further south of the building near the existing Farm Boy.

The old store has 110 spots, this one is looking for 199. that will really help because it's damned near impossible to get a spot at the old store during the day. I wonder if larger format Farm Boy is a priority for Sobeys and if we'll start seeing this in other places where space allows...

Sweet Jesus, I always thought this farmboy was already bigger than the 2 in Orleans by a lot and now it's going to get even bigger. Their bakery section is massive compared to the ones in Orleans.

It looks like the new Adonis supermarket in the former Target space on St Laurent will soon be open. The shelves are stocked, the sign is up, but there's still a bit of exterior work being done. I imagine that this will be a very successful location for them.

Food Basics is going to die next to that place. Too bad it’s not closer to LRT.

For the past little while we've had people at the Gatineau Adonis wearing name tags that say "FORMATION OTTAWA". So that's your Ottawa store staff being groomed for the opening.

I was thinking it would give the Food Basics a boost - won't most customers take advantage to hit both places? I know I would.

Foods Basics and Adonis are both owned by Metro.

also remember there used to be a Metro in that mall, which closed and who knows, possibly in part due to Food Basics

I have rarely been to Food Basics, though I am pretty sure I know what they are about.

Adonis for something of a specialty niche retailer has pretty darn good prices on a lot of stuff I have found.
