I wonder what they'll name this park as. It'll likely be named after someone.

I went by here this morning and they were laying asphalt. I was waiting to see what kind of pavers would be used and curious to see some sort of design or something visually appealing but they have cheaped out on asphalt. Poor Hamilton. So disappointing.

I was really hoping the park would end up looking more green then the initial renders suggested it would be. So far looking more like a parking lot with tree's then an actual greenspace. Fingers crossed I will be pleasantly surprised! It's nice to see it progressing at least.

I think it will be green enough by June and more so in the years to follow. It's a good time for planting but November is not very impressive off the start. Everything is going to sleep. Here's hoping something sweet happens at that Ripple site.

Very sad.

Instead of asphalt, why not use pea gravel or crushed stone? Surely it's cheaper. It's definitely more attractive and nicer to walk on...

I wonder how many go-karts will be on that circuit.

Or maybe the plan is to name it "Downtown Driving Park"... akin to its larger and older sibling in Dundas.

What's the point of those two little concrete strips in the middle of the path?

First thing that came to mind.

All this talking, planning, back-and-forthing over years and years and this is what we end up with?!

At least we actually have it now. It's better than a car park and it'll most likely be renovated in a few decades anyways. I'm gonna go see the site tomorrow before I pass judgement, because the design was probably intended to be more of a square than a greenspace.

I must agree though that asfault is ugly.

I'm with you. The asphalt doesn't look the nicest and will radiate heat in the summer without tree shade. It's better than a parking lot of course but I feels like a missed opportunity to add some real greenspace.

Are their sitting areas other than on the grassy knolls?

True, judgment is best reserved in person, and when it's all done.

But this city repeatedly fails to understand that simple is the way to go when it comes to parks, in my opinion. How many times has Gore Park been "rejuvenated"? Some change is necessary over time as issues arise or things deteriorate, but to me the best park spaces tend to be the ones laid out with the basics: trees and greenery, pathways, benches, perhaps a formal gathering spot. Let the public just "be" within them. Bayfront Park is a prime example... I think it was a resounding success, its original design, that has only improved as trees have matured and Hamiltonians have appreciated it. And now its a part of a much lengthier system all along the west harbour and into Cootes Paradise. But how long before a city council decides it needs to be "renewed"??? (Commonwealth Games visions notwithstanding)

Whoever signed off on the asphalt needs a serious talking-to. I've really and truly never heard of such a thing.
