Equally boggling is that developers won't even touch the strip mall across the street, or any of the walkups or SFHs in the area. It seems that this is indeed mostly about bragging rights rather than economics or planning; Vancouver would've gone with 15-25 floors, then midrises and townhomes all the way to Burquitlam instead.
