This is only the first phase too! There are still multiple phases until this behemoth is all built out. So more time for all of us to guess completion dates and get disappointed all over again!

The Vancity branch has a posted opening of Nov 12. Wonder if that'll be Sporting Life as well.

They seem to be having difficulty renting out the larger two-bedroom units, currently running this promotion:

"*For a limited time, one year of free parking is available with all C and D plans. Thereafter parking will be available for $150 per month based on availability. The use of a storage locker is also free for six months with all new home rentals and will subsequently be charged at $50/month. These promotions are subject to end or change at any time."

Last night the fog rolled in, blanketing all of Brentwood.

It's a nice place, no complaints really except noise. One is to be expected, though. (I face East.)

Construction starts at 7am Mon-Sat, so don't expect to sleep in, especially if you're a light sleeper. (I can understand and live with this.)

My gripe that I'm going to submit a complaint about is that in the past few days they've started playing obnoxiously loud music from the mall level 24/7. I've tried to sleep with the windows open but can't. It's woken me up at 4am etc and the music is still blaring. It needs to shut off at 10pm or something reasonable.

Burnaby nighttime noise bylaw hours are 10pm - 7am. You can read more about it here.

Thanks. I just installed an app on my phone to test and I get 55-60 standing by my balcony door at 10:50. Even assuming the inaccuracy of a phone app something definitely needs to be done.

It's like I'm playing a stereo in my own apartment.

That's unfortunate. You may need to buy some Earplugs and bedroom fan for white noise.

Are they working overnight - could be workers unaware that sound travels?
or maybe the music is programmed improperly?

saw this tidbit in a retail insider article

Quote:
Developer SHAPE partnered with L Catterton in the development of The Amazing Brentwood in Burnaby, which is also targeting luxury brands on an upper level wing. Retail Insider was provided with a confidential lease plan indicating that the project is targeting some of the world’s biggest luxury brands, not to mention possibly a well-known large-format luxury retailer that was recently in discussions to open in the centre.

I don't understand why you don't just call the authorities (as in the actual 5-0. i.e. The cops).

Not necessarily to arrest anyone, but often times a knock on the door (or the worksite) from the boys in blue tends to be enough to get it resolved.

It's literally within your rights (and what else is your taxpayer money going towards if not for this?)

I believe the only stipulation is that you have to have made an effort to try to get them to turn it down first on your own. And then if it continues you call the cops and they'll typically get them to turn it down with possibly a warning since they're violating the noise by-law.

It could even be that everyone is bothered by it, but no one wants to raise a ruckus or kick up a hornet's nest, so everyone collectively suffers in silence (.....well,....figuratively speaking).

I've been in this situation plenty of times before and afterwards in comparing notes you just found that other neighbors were just as bothered by it, but no one took the initiative to do anything because they either believed someone else would, or they didn't want to be the ones causing a fuss.

I went to the building manager today and brought it up. She said other residents have complained but not sure where it's coming from. I showed her some videos recorded from my unit and then she said she'd take care of it ASAP.

If other residents have complained then at least you're in good standing and know that you're not just being a nuisance and that it's a real issue that's a public disturbance such that if the cops have to be involved at any point, then it's legitimate.

Also good on you for bringing it up with the building manager because that's usually who the cops talk to first.

Sometimes building managers say they'll take care of an issue, but the reality is that they're often in no better a situation to resolve it than are resident, and it wouldn't surprise me if they would be the ones to get the authorities involved if it gets out of hand.
