Surprisingly I see construction starting for the park on west 1st and Ontario. I thought for sure that construction would be delayed until at least the concert development at 1551 Quebec is complete, which is never. 1551 will likely remain vacant until the viaducts come down, or even further out just looking at the global economic trends

Are you sure there's something starting? I walk by there daily and haven't noticed anything. I will make sure I pay attention next time.

Thanks, a shortcut from Switchmen would make a ton of sense. Based on that timeline it does look like the park is going forward regardless of what's happening with the final building on that development.

It has yet to be officially launched, or any construction activity started.

I spoke to Concert earlier this year in March. I was told that they planned on launching the last building towards the end of 2019. This was way back in March, so not sure if this timeline I was quoted is still reliable.

Speaking of delays, the signage on the new MEC flagship store has changed from "Late 2019" to "Early 2020". Guess they are going to miss the holiday season...

I was in a meeting this summer and they are planning stages now. So should see movement either late this year or early next

I'm excited for the new MEC to open, I'm hoping it sets some new standards for innovative green design. The painfully slow roadwork at 1st and Quebec, and now 2nd and Quebec, is pretty much complete after about 3 years on and off. The bike lanes look good.

Mt. Pleasant industrial area, one of the most exciting parts of Vancouver right now. Liking this proposal, it will fit in well with some of the existing light industrial buildings.

It was in the Office thread three weeks ago. It was on the Changing City blog over a month ago, with a better image. It's one of 12 project for office & industrial submitted or approved in Mount Pleasant, and there are another nine buildings under construction, and a couple very recently completed.

It'll match the old laundry up the street, for as long as that stays in the area (which may not be long), but everything else that's being proposed is much more contemporary so this may look a bit odd over time.

Maybe it has been answered but when are they building the new park south of Science World? Condos went up and then nothing. How can developers get away from not building community components of thei projects? Same with Concord getting away not building low-rises in Yaletown for DECADES?

There was a discussion about it a while ago. It's a Parks Board project - Concert have no role in its design or construction. The Park Board are not noted for speed. (Richards Street new Downtown park construction delayed again to January 2020).

Concord never had to build any of the low rise non-market buildings, just reserve the land for the City to buy once they got funds (from other levels of government). That's why they haven't happened yet either.

Everything with this city is so slow... I had completely forgot about the new Downtown park! They better hurry so that Oppenheimer campers will have a nice new amenity.

The park next to Concord lands is set to be built in Spring 2020. I'm not holding my breath, but that's the plan.

Likely it will open just in time for Winter 2020...
