There is a river (rivière) called Rivière-des-Prairies. between Laval and the North Shore.

When I've visited I've stayed only around the downtown area. But on a trip to the east coast a number of years ago we took Autoroute 40 through the city, and I was surprised at how flat the terrain was.

That angle of downtown was just unusual, not showing any of Mont Royal (though the tree line in the foreground looks like it's on a rise... I would guess that it was taken from somewhere to the south?)

Calgary, by a relatively large margin. 12 vs. 5. City-wide it's 18 vs. 6. A bunch are about to come off the list in both cities, but I do know Calgary has another 3 about to start construction in the next couple months, downtown alone. I believe Edmonton has a couple set to start too, not certain though. Regardless, the dynamic won't be changing any time soon.

We've tried to count the cranes around Vancouver but it's almost impossible to keep on top of.

Vancouver Construction Crane Count

There are 7 cranes within a couple blocks of where I live in downtown Vancouver. About 25-30(?) on the downtown peninsula. About 88 in City of Vancouver. Upwards of 200 across Metro Vancouver (just based on our own observations).

Galaxy reported that the Oakridge redevelopment alone (which has already started) will have 17 cranes at it's peak.

This CTV news report from the spring reported ~250 cranes across the lower mainland and ~300 in BC...

City-wide Edmonton has 13.
