I checked out the new Safeway tonight in the Austin heights, it smells weird but it is nice, not as good as their Burquitlam store, but they have two parking lots, one underground and one on the roof. If you are looking for a spot to take pictures of the Surrey Skyline head up there.

Diana Dilworth, the most competent councillor in Port Moody, characterizes the station in the article as a 'pipe dream', but if anything I'd say that is optimistic, as having the station get built is even less likely than seeing a pipeline get built.

Given the current clown council (such a long time until the next municipal election) I wouldn't blame the province if they shut down one of the existing stations in Port Moody - see the updates from officedweller for details, in particular the clowning on the plans for Moody Centre, where our mayor and allies seem to be keen to see the existing cluster of auto shops, strip malls and vacant lots preserved in amber until it can be awarded heritage status...

Documents reveal development plans for Fort Langley properties tied to councillor

A series of buildings in downtown Fort Langley that have been boarded up for years could be turned into a mix of residential and commercial space.

That’s according to a development application obtained by Global News that was submitted to Township of Langley staff in September by a foundation tied to a sitting councillor, who has been attempting to redevelop the area for years.

The application concerns some of the 11 buildings owned by Coun. Eric Woodward’s Statewood Properties, which have been sitting empty since 2017.

Woodward has promised all the properties — which sit on or near the downtown core of the village on Glover Road — will be transferred to the newly-created and non-profit Eric Woodward Foundation beginning in 2019 now that he sits on council.

According to the documents, Statewood is hoping to transform the properties between Glover Road, Mary Avenue and Church Street into 41 apartment units and 35,414 square feet of commercial space.

The application also asks council to approve increasing the allowable height of the development from two stories and nine metres, or 29.5 feet, to three stories and 13.5 metres, or 44.3 feet.

On Saturday, Mayor Jack Froese said he doesn’t have a problem with the application for the Glover-Mary-Church properties itself and is open to all ideas for updating Fort Langley — so long as it doesn’t impede on the town’s character.

“All towns go through an evolution as they grow and as time goes on, and we’re no different,” he said. “We do have protection, this is a heritage conservation area … so there are guidelines that anyone who builds here has to follow.”

The battle over the future of Fort Langley dates back to the previous council, when Woodward applied to redevelop the properties along Glover Road, Mary Avenue and Church Street and build a boutique hotel and other mixed-use developments.

The applications hit a roadblock when council requested Statewood include an emergency lane to allow for first responder and municipal service access. Woodward withdrew the proposals altogether instead of altering them.

Blaming government red tape, Woodward began boarding up the buildings in 2017. He also painted some of them pink.

The township’s Heritage Advisory Committee has since ruled the buildings, many of which have stood for decades, do not qualify for heritage protection status.

Constructed in four phases over 20 years, the ultimate build-out of WeTown could host up to approximately 18,000 jobs and 29,000 residents within about 12,500 homes.
ATD envisions WeTown’s location and scale will attract a cluster of major high-tech companies, as well as a tech-focused post-secondary institution, such as an expansion of University of the Fraser Valley or perhaps even a satellite campus of a leading international university...

They mention how close they are to the highway and nothing about downtown Abby, while describing their development as a "high-tech city within a city". Will it work - no idea. But I suspect they'd try to make it their own city if they thought they could get away with it, which makes this dreaming out loud.

With the amount of money, that they want to spend it would be better if they spent it on building out many more buildings in Surrey where there is a lot of space for towers and existing infrastructure to support the population. Also, It would help clean up more of downtown/central Surrey and will not be building on existing green space.

Guessing about 23-25 floors, 21-22 floor tower with a 2-3 floor podium.

This was previously proposed/applied to be a 36 storey but it is now gone up to 42 storeys and it will replace a 3 storey apartment at 533 cottonwood. Its about 2 buildings up from Meridian which is at cottonwood and North Road. There is also a proposal for a tower of about 25 storeys at 519 Cottonwood (I think) that will go in between Meridian which is 32 storey and this new proposal, as well as a 29 storey across the street a bit to the west at whiting way & cottonwood which the current building is already fenced off I think, very close to the new Lougheed Heights, there is one old 3 storey condo in between that new proposal and Lougheed Heights. This will also basically be neightbours with the 50 storey Highpoint going up on Clarke.

Anthem Properties is planning a 42-storey, mixed-use tower on Cottonwood Avenue in Coquitlam, close to Lougheed Hwy. and North Road.

The development will also include a six-storey rental apartment building, as well as several townhouses.

In total, there will be 467 residential units, consisting of 332 market condominium units and 135 purpose-built rental units, including 20 below-market rental units.

Anthem will own the purpose-built rental units and is partnering with BC Housing as the operator and leaseholder for the 20 below-market rental units.

The tower will be clad in window wall, with a 50/50 transparency to opaque ratio. Brick cladding will be applied to portions of the townhouses and six-storey rental building. The majority of the six-storey rental building will be clad in hardie panel.
