Nice! I do feel for the businesses that had to relocate or close, but that is/was a pretty nondescript strip mall and the building itself is no real loss. It is a case of short term pain for long term gain.

Could someone who lives or regularly travels by it post some photos of the progress?

Here is a view from Google Street View to start:

Tragically, the deli closed. It was my go-to in Ottawa. The owners decided to take the money and retire.

Very sad indeed. Slavic/East European food is already very hard to find in Ottawa

I am Polish, and I can attest that there are at least a half dozen more Polish delis around Ottawa, including 2 in the Byward Market and one on Carling by Preston.

Is the consortium required to post weekly updates like for Stage 1? Not seeing much news.

Good Day.

Yep, they are, but I would have to think that they are still getting their $#!tt together - making the plans,scrubbing the plans, editing the plans, submitting the plans to City for 'approval', redoing the plans, and on and on and on, as per normal bureaucratic bull.
I did reference the relevant section of the contract over in Trillium Line South LRT Extension Stage 2 | U/C post 1590 :

......This seems to have been written into the released PAs in Schedule 18, Part 4 for both the C-Line (EWC) (pdf pg. 507-518) and the T-Line (TN) (pdf pg. 477-488),
which seem to spell out more comprehensive coverage and information release as to designs and ongoing progress.

but here is an extract :

Quote:
Project Agreement Schedule 18 Part 4 Paragraph 4.2
(a) During the Construction Period, DB Co shall:
(i) support the City’s social media strategy for the Project (which may include tools such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr) and the City’s Project websites’ static (written) and dynamic (multimedia) content, by providing, for review and approval by the City, where the quality of the photography and video is as described in Section 4.13:
(A) a monthly feature web article highlighting, but not limited to, one aspect of the Project including, design, innovations on the Project, feature on local workers,general contractors or local companies, Construction Activities, or Project benefits, with a minimum length of 500 words, as well as two related Twitter posts for the Project’s Twitter account;
(B) a weekly construction update on Project construction that provides a recent summary of construction work completed and upcoming work along the alignment including high-quality representative professional photographs (see Section 4.13 for photo quality specifications);
(C) a weekly Twitter post with photograph(s) along with associated written description for the City’s use, including the Mayor;
(D) notifications of public consultations, consultation materials and post-consultation summaries;
(E) develop all photos for weekly construction updates for submission to and approval by the City;
(F) interactive map(s) that provide an overview of the extensions, along with information on key activities at each site (stations), which should be regularly maintained and updated monthly at a minimum;
(G) monthly short video clips for the purposes of social media; and
(H) up-to-date graphics, photos and video clips showcasing the design of each Station and progress of the Construction Activities;
(ii) provide drafts of proactive and reactive content for responses to crisis situations, immediate issues, public queries or complaints, no later than two hours after DB Co or the City becomes aware of any such crisis situation, immediate issue, public query or complaint;
(iii) provide draft advance notification for the purposes of website and social media updates for review and approval by the City with respect to meetings, events, initiatives, and Construction Activities that will have a direct impact on roads, traffic and/or transit; and
(iv) develop web content to support government Stakeholders (e.g. MTO) web and social media communications needs for review and approval by the City.
So..... we hope it is coming !

Crazy that they didn’t drop it off in Montreal so that they could have it delivered by train. That’s a lot of trips by truck.

Could it be that CN refused to do the job for reasons we don’t know yet? Anyway now we’re looking at serious jam on Highway 416 for the next while.

My guess is that they will do it at night, when traffic volume is light. Where in Ottawa will they store them until needed? Hopefully it isn’t too far from the 416. Maneuvering those on city streets will be a challenge, regardless of the time of day.

For Airport Spur, I wonder if the city can store those rails near the airport.

Edit: Ignore my comments. I was thinking about Airport Spur for some reason. I might have read it on another thread.

Reposting this here from the C-line thread.

I've seen that a few people on here are confused as to why Moodie is not being designed as an island platform station for easier transfers. The answer is track geometry, available space and station location. Simply put, an island platform would take more space, forcing Corkstown road to be shifted further north. This is because the 417 off-ramp underpass limits how far south the eastbound track can be placed. An island platform would thus take more space than the side platform on the north side. If you look at the eastbound platform of the current BRT station, that's the where the eastbound LRT platform is going to be. If an island platform configuration is used, that will simply become deadspace.

Edit: Corrected westbound to eastbound (bolded in text)

A whopping 50 routes currently terminate at or service Tunney's Pasture compared to 19 that go though Moodie. The transfer issues post-Stage 2 will pale in comparison.

What's going to suffer in Stage 2 is frequency. If we can barely keep 5 minute headways with 13 trains spread out on 12.5 kilometres of track, doubling the train sets but tripling the distance (12.5+12 east+15 west) will definitely affect the service.

How amazing would it be if the westbound train terminated at the westbound bus platform, simply walk across the flat 15 foot wide platform onto a waiting bus. Bangkok has amazing train transfer platforms where two distinct train lines terminate on the same island, so people can simply walk across the island onto the next waiting train.
