I had the ad and pop up blocker turned on in Chrome (no problems on Firefox) but was still getting them. I cleared the cookies and added this specific site to the pop up blocker and it seems to have worked. I just thought it was odd because I've never had an issue before and it's only coming from this site.

Victoria Park to have all lighting switched to LED that can be adjusted by zone for events like Cinema Under the Stars and RFF etc. I think this is great considering the updating of Vic as well as ongoing safety concerns in the park.

Everyone is certainly entitled to an opinion, but I, someone who has lived a block away for 33 years, should be concerned as this IS my neighbourhood. I was never 'for' this building in the first place. It's obvious we didn't get our way. It's not a great piece of architecture, but it is not that bad. The two colours of glass look odd right now but I will reserve judgement for when it has been completed including the landscaping. Dr Roberta McKay, who owns half of the 23 block of College Avenue, told me that she loves the new building, especially in light of the money that is helping with the restoration of Darke Hall. I agree with that. The reason we don't have great modern architecture is because everyone wants to spend as little as possible to build. Construction costs are so high. For example, Green Falls Landing, the four-storey seniors complex on Chuka Boulevard, cost $70 million. Crazy.

And now someone is complaining about traffic lights? WTF! Okay, let's get rid of every traffic light in the city, without yield or stop signs, and treat every intersection as a four-way stop.

I think a few posters are just haters and instead of having anything constructive to say will just bash things.

By the way, I think the College Avenue campus looks amazing. I am very happy that this building, as well as Darke Hall are now accessible to everyone, and will be around for another 80 years. Thanks for posting the pictures. Oh, I can't wait for someone to complain about the green plastic around the new trees to keep the animals (rabbits) from chewing on the bark. I am sure someone thinks they are ugly!

Okay, yes, I called it hideous. I think the original campus buildings are gorgeous and I don't like the look of the modern buildings tacked on the west end. I don't think it's a good fit.

By contrast, a block away, on the Canterbury lands, the Lobby is in a building that very much matches the older buildings around it. I love the look of that. There's some continuity there.

Go ahead and call me a hater, but I'm willing to say why I don't like it and it's not just because it's a bank in the park.

The additions to the College buildings are good. Conexus is a failure. And giving a corporation a set of lights that will fuck over a previously pedestrian friendly corridor deserves all the scorn in the world.

It's interesting how in North America, we tend to think that the only thing that will 'fit' with older buildings are faux older buildings.

By contrast, in Europe, they tend to embrace modern architecture rather than mimic older styles. In cities like Amsterdam or Paris, you know what is old and what is new.

Starting Monday through year end, city is working on lighting alongside Ring Road from Assiniboine to Wascana Parkway. Speed reductions and periodic lane closures at times. Boy I hope the bridge work is done this month bc this could be a real mess with both going on.

Well, I guess it does run to the "end of the year" (do any City road projects take less than 3 months?). Also I suppose traffic is effed on that stretch any in Oct. so can they really make it worse?

The one exception is if you are coming off Assiniboine southbound - it is actually fine right now, you miss most of the disruption and traffic backup because the on ramp has its own bridge over the Creek. If they decide to the do the southbound lanes first and screw this too up before the bridge work and Regina Bypass is open, it will have confirmed the complete incompetence of the City.
