That's a great point. Though, it being state land, there's no guarantee the two entities would be able to cooperate for the greater good of all. Ahem.

At least the footprint of the hospital itself is smaller than I first thought. So there's room in other portions of that super block to go higher.

At a minimum, they should be building 10-story buildings up there, and really there's no reason not to go higher.

10-stories is probably too tall for a psych hospital, but this definitely does not strike me as an "MD Anderson of the Brain" like Kirk Watson likes to call it.

I get the desire for courtyards and trying to keep things looking bucolic and maybe even pastoral inside the grounds. I understand that they want to keep this thing mostly inward facing. Presumably the people inside this facility would benefit from the relative calm.

But I absolutely HATE the way the design goes right up to Lamar and then turns it back on it entirely. This looks kind of like an outdated design proposal for a dorm that St. Ed's would have politely ignored.

Gross. Just when I was beginning to gain hope that the state had become a better steward of public land from an urban perspective they go and release this trash.

A layout plan was posted to the AULCC page today for a project at 321 West 6th Street. It's a good bet it'll be something tall. This is for the BBVA drive through bank property.

Alumnus’ Transformative Gift Names New Energy Engineering Building at UT

USTIN, Texas — Thanks to an extraordinary commitment from alumnus and former EOG Resources Inc. President Gary L. Thomas, the Cockrell School of Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin is officially naming its newest building the Gary L. Thomas Energy Engineering Building. Through his investment, Thomas hopes to ensure UT’s position among the nation’s top energy universities while helping to provide a multidisciplinary engineering education for students.

The 184,000-square-foot facility, which is under construction at Speedway and 24th Street on the UT campus, will be a multidisciplinary hub for energy-related education, research and innovation. Thomas, along with UT President Gregory L. Fenves, Cockrell School Dean Sharon L. Wood and a large gathering of supporters and community members, celebrated the building’s official groundbreaking at a ceremony today.

That's the same intersection as 6xG, and there is no CVC.

Finally! I work at 300 W 6th and I'm amazed that property is so under utilized!

The AULCC data document describes 321 W. 6th as a "Proposed mixed-use high rise with associated utility connections."

The Ryan Company is named on the one single document we have for the 321 W. 6th St. mixed used tower. They are both a developer and construction company. In Austin they are known for 5th & Brazos and Phase I of the Oracle campus among other projects.

Underdeveloped as of day one. Complete fail to connect the grid and to utilize the land. Obvious deference given to strong local NIMBYism. This is lack of leadership and vision on steroids.

Heard some news today that made me a little sad. The planned Rundberg extension is possibly going to lead to the closing of C. Hunt's Icehouse.

C. Hunt's is the meeting place of the Austin 42 Club that I'm a member of. Great group of people that meet and play an amazing domino game that was invented in Texas and is still generally only played in Texas. It's the 42 dojo of Texas. I just found the place in 2017, so it'll suck if it gets forced into closure.

It's not every day that you see a tower crane for a car dealership. This is the new Porsche dealership on 183 at 360, adjacent to the Arboretum. It will have a total of 7 levels, with one underground.

I know ATX posted the crane count not to long ago but looks like there are several more cranes up. Especially the north end Capitol complex and UT. Several Luffing cranes too in West Campus. Crane is up at Lamar and Oltorf for those offices. We are truly Crane City right now and it's only the beginning!!!

Absolutely. I noticed from a distance there is now a sign in front of the development with a rendering of the building. I'll get a shot of it later this week, unless somewhere here gets one first.
