I know someobody said a few months back that the Cambria finally broke ground.....Did it actually ? i know its most peoples least favorite project but it seemed to get a lot of attention for a week and then a ground breaking and then nothing lol Any news on that ? did it get put on hold? or is it actively under construction and no one cares ? lol.

Cambria seems to be focusing their attention on their renovation project on Spring St.

No doubt! That whole area between Metropolis and LA live deserves a few substantially tall buildings. Even the Courtyard feels dated and of place. It’s a tragedy the original Ritz expansion didn’t happen. I suppose the current update on the opposite side isn’t SO bad... I just wish Olympia, Luxe, and Hooters start in 2020 & life will be great. Those projects combined will create a huge difference in the skyline!

I agree but I'm starting to get a little worried about the Luxe site. The last we heard about that site was a full 3 years ago when the first phase was supposed to begin 3rd quarter 2017. It would be a great addition but with the unnecessary watered down changes, I'm on the fence about it.

The project, submitted to the City of Los Angeles by an entity affiliated with the Neman family in 2015, calls for the construction of a 57-story building containing approximately:
•65,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space,
•33,500 square feet of office space
•10,800 square feet of hotel meeting space
•373 hotel rooms
•374 condominiums; and
•838 parking stalls in six below-grade levels and an eight-story podium.

Nardi Associates is designing the tower, which would stand 742 feet tall on a roughly 37,000-square-foot site. At ground level, the Figueroa and Olympic frontages would be lined with retail space, with automobile access restricted to Cottage Place, an alley along the western property line. The tower would incorporate three amenity decks - located on the 13th, 56th, and 57th floors - including fitness centers, pools, and lounge areas.

The project requires a transfer of floor area rights to achieve its proposed height and density, and would come with an $18 million public benefits package as a result. That money would be split evenly between a cash payment and a direct provision of funds for affordable housing and the revamp of Pershing Square.

Design Revisions Unveiled for 60-Story Olympic & Hill Tower

A pending presentation to the Los Angeles City Planning Commission reveals design changes to a proposed high-rise apartment tower in Downtown's South Park community.

Onni Group, the developer behind the project, intends to replace a surface parking lot at the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Hill Street with a 60-story building containing 700 apartments above a podium containing 1,075 parking stalls and 15,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.

The project, which was previously presented to the City Planning Commission in November 2018, is returning this month to address a request to redesign the tower's roofline to create a more distinctive presence in the Downtown skyline. Chris Dikeakos Architects answered that charge by removing a boxy, illuminated structure in favor of a series of angled screens lined with vertical mullions and a sloping trellis.

"The similarity in appearance of the mullions on the top roof screen and the facade of the podium work to create a sense of cohesiveness between the top and bottom of the building," reads a design narrative. "Angular shapes and forms including the balconies on the two sides of the building as well as the triangular shaped screen at the roof are used to create a dynamic impression."

Other key design elements - including habitable space wrapping above-grade parking levels - are largely unchanged

In addition to the reshaped roofline, a staff report to the City Planning Commission also makes new recommendations for the distribution of $12.7 million to be paid by Onni in exchange for a transfer of floor area rights. Half of that would be paid as a direct provision to Downtown projects including the Pershing Square redesign, the affordable housing trust fund, and enhanced streetscape improvements.

The staff report recommends that the Commission should approve the proposed transfer plan allocations.

An environmental study conducted for the project was approved by the City of Los Angeles in June. The study estimates that construction of the Olympic and Hill tower is to occur over 30 months, with project delivery anticipated in 2022.

My dream scenario is the proposed towers in the South Park Skyline all get built, and then the filling out of the Fig corridor, Fig Centre, Carwash Tower, The Hooters replacement, and Luxe Replacement. If those get done in the next 5 years, DTLA will have a very cohesive stretch of Fig from basically the WG all the way to the Convention Center. And a burgeoning residential neighborhood of SP.
Plus the skyline will be striking.

Agreed. That’s key for DTLA gaining a more imposing appearance. Even DT Seattle is more imposing than DTLA.
Haven’t been to Denver, but from images, it also looks more impressive on approach. Then again, only Miami, Chicago, NYC, Philadelphia, San Francisco and maybe Atlanta (downtown and midtown contiguous) would fit that bill.

Atlanta (downtown and midtown) from certain angles is cool...but it’s not really connected by foot. Also it’s not close to being on the same level as far as an urban experience as SF, NYC, or DTLA. Probably worse than the Bunker Hill section of DTLA. With that being said, there are certain angles of DTLA that makes a much more impressive and imposing look than what you seem to find on the internet.

Agreed, even with San Diego, despite its 500ft height limit and less high rises than LA, looks dense because a cluster of towers circle downtown in all directions and in the middle is basically the historic old buildings.

Tall or short...big or small....new or old, good architecture or bad, up close or from a distance, dtla needs more of this....

I can think of so many times when I've actually been in dtla, not seeing it from 2 or 10 miles away, that the sight of joe's parking lots....& lots owned by other ppl too....give such a great feeling to the hood. the small, rundown bldgs of dtla too.

Agreed. Certain angles of DTLA can give a dramatically different impression. I was stunned when I saw this on a CBS news report. I was like is that really LA!?! It's a great angle! Obviously taken from the helicopter so it would be difficult to get this exact perspective from the ground.
