Quick comment on rail service. We would have had the opportunity to take the Canada Line to YVR however, we opted to accept a ride from my partner's aunt and uncle since it was rush hour and Canada is already packed even outside rush hour. I imagine taking the train from the YVR to downtown is fairly simple since you're stepping on an empty train however, downtown to airport is less ideal.

In Victoria, we took the bus from the airport to downtown, which required one transfer. The ride took about an hour total. Wasn't too bad honestly. Our three train YOW to Downtown might not be so terrible after all, though 1 or 2 trains would be far superior none-the-less.

When I traveled between Vancouver and Victoria in late April, we took a bus from Pacific Central Station that took us via the ferry and directly to downtown Victoria with no transfers. In return, we took the V2V boat which departed from the harbour almost opposite the Empress Hotel and took us directly to downtown Vancouver. Hot Food service was available and was brought to your seat. A very comfortable way to travel between the two cities.

That was a little out of our price range

We actually went from Tofino to Vancouver in one day. Rented car from Tofino to downtown Victoria (DV), hour and a half BC Transit bus from (DV) to Swartz Bay Ferry, Translink Bus from Tsawwassen Ferry to Bridgeport Station, Canada Line to our hotel in Yaletown. Took us around 12 hours total! It was kind of fun!!

Perk up, LRT riders: Happy Goat Coffee Company is coming to four Confederation Line stations to make your morning commute a bit smoother.

The local retailer is expected to set up shop at Tunney's Pasture, Rideau, Hurdman and Blair stations early in the new year, if not before.

According to the city, Happy Goat won the concession contract through an open bidding process involving seven other companies. The bids were assessed on dollar value, ingenuity, design and options, according to Robin Souchen, the city's manager of realty services.

The company will pay $20,000 in rent for all four locations. The contract is for five years with the possibility of renewal for another five years.

Henry Assad, president and CEO of Happy Goat Coffee Company, said it's a big day for the local company.

"We're looking forward to helping shape better mornings and great days for Ottawa commuters, with gourmet coffee and locally made food, served at the speed of O-Train," Assad said.

Mayor Jim Watson helped make the announcement Thursday at the coffee chain's Elgin Street location.

"Commuters will be able to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or snack in our world-class light rail transit system as they travel to work, home and everywhere in between," Watson said.

Happy Goat Coffee Company is an Ottawa-based business with five cafés around the city. The company also distributes its coffee to more than 100 cafés, restaurants, bars and supermarkets in the Ottawa region.

I lived in Moscow for a while 10+ years ago. During my 4 years of subway commuting there was only one unplanned shutdown. Due to a suicide attempt.

Ottawa has always allowed it, many American systems don't yet are dingy and dirty anyway.

Was in Boston just a few days ago, while riding the green line which I haven't done in a while there's a big difference between our system and a streetcar in a tunnel like there.

I do give Boston kudos for accessibility in an old system though. Navigating Montreal with a stroller is a nightmare, it was easy in Boston.

If the service is to be suspended for more than 90 minutes, there is a provisional bus service to remplace the metro lines with a specified bus stop for such service. During huge shutdowns, like Berri-UQÀM being closed. You wlil need to be patient as not enough buses would be available.

Major service interruptions are being communicated publicly with a 2 minutes delay between the employees and the public. The staff is also invited to communicate the info immediately if they're ok with it and it's minor issues.

Singapore is an extreme example, both Japan and Korea have food stalls/vending machines, and sometimes full blown sit down restaurants, in their stations and every single station in those countries remain sparkling clean. It all depends on how well the crowds and the city maintain the cleanliness of the stations.

Not quite. They banned "sales" of chewing gum. Anyone can still bring chewing gum into Singapore from abroad and chew gum in Singapore as they wish.

So, the climate march today gave us a sense of whether the LRT can handle Canada Day-type crowds. So far so good.
