Absolutely SHOCKED at this new Ottawa proposal by Toronto's Main+Main. Architect IBI Group (designers of Ottawa's three downtown subway stations). At 400 Albert Street within Ottawa's CBD which has been kept down by height restrictions for decades. Residential with commercial/retail podium. Towers are 123m, 108m, 60m | 38, 33, 18 fl. Nearly 1000 units.

Height restrictions still exist therefore, the project must go through City Council and the NCC (masters of the downtown height restrictions). I can see the City approve this project as it is currently a huge parking lot a block away from Confederation's Lyon Station and because they are very developer friendly. The NCC is a wild card. Considering they did not interfere in the Château Laurier expansion debate, which will impact the traditional skyline much more than this proposal, I expect major public scrutiny if they were to interfere now.

The other possible road block of course are NIMBYs, the vocal minority, who seem to oppose anything and everything.

Update rendering of Trinity at Bayview Station, Ottawa's tallest, BY FAR, if built.

Wow 200m+ in Ottawa. Assume these are not downtown (eg. la Defence)

The first proposal (123m, 108m, 60m | 38, 33, 18 fl.) is right downtown and would be taller than the current tallest in the CBD, Place de Ville Tower C at 112 meters. The supertall is at Bayview Station, 1.5 kilometers west of the traditional downtown.

Supertall in Ottawa terms....which is still REALLY tall. It's the Bayview station development, three towers, recently had some new renderings which don't look half bad at all. (211 m or something)

Three towers proposed for Broadway-Commercial Safeway site redevelopment

Towers envisioned at 24, 27 and 30 storeys above the retail level

Naoibh O’Connor / Vancouver Courier
SEPTEMBER 25, 2019

Aerial view of the proposed project looking northwest toward downtown. Rendering Perkins and Will

It’s been years in the making, but the rezoning application for the redevelopment of the Broadway-Commercial Safeway site has finally been submitted to the City of Vancouver.

Architecture firm Perkins & Will filed the application for 1780 East Broadway on behalf of developer Westbank and property owner Crombie REIT.

The application envisions a mixed-use development with residential units (condo, rental and social housing); retail and office space; a childcare facility; a grocery store; and a new public plaza.

The three proposed residential towers are envisioned at 24, 27 and 30 storeys above the retail level, while 520 condo and 160 rental units are included in the project. The public plaza would run parallel to the SkyTrain station.

I'd hate to see the drive ruined by the precedent set here.

It's tall for Ottawa and has some curved points. It's still pretty average with a good chance of being ruined with spandrel glass. At least there now is some hope with respect to some recent IBI (formerly P+S) designed towers in Toronto that actually turned out okay.

Least attractive renderings I've seen. Has it been value engineered?

The shorter tower moved from behind the taller building to the flat-iron part, which is good. Materials do seem cheaper, I agree. Especially the podium.

Love that downtown Ottawa block, very nice! But not too sure about the Bayview Station one... though I do love the massing and brick of the podium.

Not sure how I feel about it, it's maybe a bit too big and bulky feeling.

It could be quite overbearing on what may be tight streets once that area is filled in. Setbacks for the grey portion on top would be a start.
