Keep cherry picking though. There are more examples of public projects that look similar to the renderings versus ones that have not.
Almost all the new libraries are really impressive.
Which makes it all the more curious how the main one...tanked...

In town for a couple of days, and haven't been here in about 3 or 4 years... Edmonton's looking great these days! The new towers in the stadium precinct, lots of cool cafes and stuff downtown, UofA seems full of life, the valley is just gorgeous as the leaves begin to turn. As an outsider, things seem to be all moving in the right direction these days. I hope to be back again soon.

you would think the capital city downtown plan calling for "improvements to downtown roadways and streetscapes that support safe and comfortable pedestrian movement, sidewalk vibrancy, quality urban design, and more trees and greenery" would be vision enough to do a concept plan but apparently not.

I walked away from today a little discouraged at 'us' trying to make every street, everywhere, everything.

Design it with the above principles in mind, get it done in one season, connect Ice District to the Civic Precinct and call it a day. done.

103 Avenue, between 100 Street and 101 Street, is a natural connection that links people to the Civic Precinct, Ice District, the Royal Alberta Museum, Winspear Centre, City Hall, Stanley A. Milner Public Library, office towers, restaurants, hotels and the Valley Line South LRT. The City of Edmonton is exploring ideas to transform this important connection into a green and walkable streetscape.

Join the project team to share your feedback and ideas to develop a vision and options for the 103 Avenue Streetscape Project.

Time: 3 - 6 p.m. (drop-in)

They have begun swapping out the dark blue glass at Quest, for transparent glazing on the podium.

The interior looks good from the outside. I think I can warm up to the design.

Yessir you are correct. It wouldn't take all that much to have improved the aesthetics of this building.

I was noticing the black panels installed near the upper level windows. I thought that if the building could have been entirely clad like that it would have looked great.

Still those seams just don't work.

They have started recladding where the oil canning was happening.

One thing I really dislike about the slopped or curved type roof claddings is the ice rakes that have to be added. You will never see them in a rendering because they ruin the look. The ones on the library are bad, but not terrible, the ones on the art gallery are terrible.
