even the original renderings for the library had their share of awkward angles and cantilevers. moving from multi-coloured curved to monotone flat surfaces and their choices in detailing them only accentuated them. the proportions and the relationships here between the interiors and the exteriors and the surrounding public realm are something the library never had.

wake me up when I can actually see what will actually be built, not just the artistic dream of what could be before costs are considered.

The Milner Tower on 104st south of Jasper was purchased by Westcorp. They have hired Tim Antoniuk to assist on the conversion to residential/rental.

I've always loved that building, I hope they do something special without changing it.

Building it’s called not “tower”.

So they hired an industrial designer who seems to do furniture predominantly?
Should that fill me with confidence? I get you dropped his name, do you know him...is he an expert in the style of that building...what is his role?
I would imagine he is focused on the interior, hopefully the outside is just freshened up.

He is a fan of design, especially Modernism, and has the skills, talent, respect for buildings such as this.

On the face of it, it knocks the new project to the east to the side of the street. That project to the east is crazy clumsy and clunky.

Glenora is a very special place in this city. Part of it is or was protected by special caveats to not allow commercial development and as a result of that we have a very beautiful historical neighborhood. Not sure if this part of Glenora where the project was to be located fell within the caveat area but I suspect not.

The LRT having a stop in Glenora seems logical because the distance from 124 street to 142 street is very long and it makes sense. However, it will probably be the least used stop in the city. I ride the bus along both 102 avenue and Stony Plain Road and it seems that we rarely, if ever, pick up anyone along that section of the route. Plain and simple, Glenora residents generally do not take public transit. Yes, the odd person does I am sure and on Saturdays during the late mornings I have seen little old ladies get on to go downtown but usually after Crescent Place heading east to downtown, that portion of the ride to 124 street ends up being express.

The introduction of the LRT through Glenora is going to be bad enough with the loss of heritage trees (hopefully minimal) and hopefully blasting the LRT through this neighborhood won't take away from the character that is currently has. Adding commercial in this one particular location just might have been too much.

If the commercial development was to be anywhere else, I might question the city's whole transit oriented development philosophy. However, the uniqueness of this area should be taken into consideration and maybe this was the right decision.

I still would have liked to see it.
If Council thought that the Glenora Station was to be an 'exempt' or designated a different type of station in the TOD Guidelines they should have incorporated this into the document. The TOD Guidelines have been around since 2012 so there's been several years to figure this out.

But at the end of the day we're talking about a 2-storey small scale commercial building. Ridiculous, no matter how you try to justify it.

Conversion of former Enbridge Tower into downtown hotel delayed

Work converting the former Enbridge Tower into a downtown hotel has been delayed, but not been abandoned.

The the 23-storey office building on the corner of Jasper Avenue and 102 Street has been sitting empty since 2016. It was purchased by Edmonton-based Lighthouse Hospitality Inc. last year.

In January, Paul Aulakh, president of Lighthouse Hospitality, confirmed that the Hyatt hotel chain would occupy the space.

The delay is due to waiting for permits from the city.
